Sadly, you are correct.
Thank you especially to Durlston for that long and heartfelt message, very very much appreciated.
Firstly, best wishes for a speedy recovery. What a terrible thing to happen to you.

I have the PM facility turned off as I believe everything should be said in public. If you don't want to go that far, perhaps it is possible to block PMs from certain users?

Thank you. I’m just a fan of 46 years standing. I’m in my late 50s but I’ve had a hard life, so I described myself as elderly! And HT described me in the gutter as ‘elderly’ too, which made me laugh! The last time I was beaten up at a footie match was White Hart Lane in the 1978 away to Spurs 0-0 draw, my mate and I (we were 15) were set upon with no colours in a back street and had the sh1t kicked out of us. That was nearly 42 years ago, I thought footie had moved on a bit. Until today’s very rude wake-up.

First of all I am very sorry to hear of this unprovoked attack at WHU Saturday and hope you make a full recovery as I am in my 60th year The thought of being attacked generally is a concern as my ability to respond is not what it once was overweight with a bad shoulder are handicaps to self defence, becoming more vulnerable is not fun

I was at that game in 1978 our coach was attacked by Spurs fans they got on the coach at the pick up point and a fight ensued the driver drove off while the Spurs fans were thrown off, the police escorted us round a load of back streets and onto a by pass where the coach had bricks thrown at it as we passed under a foot bridge. That and Millwall around the same date were the worst to away games I ever attended

Interesting the headline is two fans arrested for homophobic gestures , and the assault is just a ALSO , the worlds gone mad .

And the daily mail reported homosexuality as a ‘lifestyle choice’.

I didn't really have a clue how many they've been getting at home but was amazed when a home fan in one of the endless queues to get in said it would be around 60,000.

Inside was a proper throwback to be honest and the stewarding appalling. The lads at the back to the right had already had one go at getting across the netting to the away fans and were just told to go and sit back down. No surprise when they had another go a bit later and in fairness to them, nearly made it. I guess they'll be back in their seats again next week.

That little crowd half way down to the left though! Fair play to most of them for still being in there at 90 minutes, would have been out before kick off at most grounds.

I had a thoughtful message from one of the mods this morning asking me if I had been affected by these PMs, and the honest answer I gave him is “no”. I honestly didn’t start out with the intention of posting my life history on here, I was so overwhelmed with the good wishes and requests for updates that I felt obliged to say thank you and respond. Four people messaged to remind me this is a football forum, which is fine, there was nothing vitriolic or abusive in their messages, so it’s fine, and I understand, it is all about football.

I thanked the mod for asking after me. I also had a very long and reassuring call from Darren Balkham this morning. He is in direct contact with his equivalent at the Met, they are working at pace, they have linked the two assaults, and are trawling cctv this morning. I feel very reassured by my hospital assessment yesterday, and by the speed and diligence of the police today. Thanks again for all your kind messages on here, and the positive PM messages of support far outweigh the adverse ones. Wedgee.

Don't let it put you off going to football.

Why do you use the words 'fair play' to a bunch of thugs

Since when?

As for not making it across the netting.

I'll suggest the very very last thing they wanted to do was make it across the netting.
They just wanted to be seen trying.

You're a far more patient soul than me, Wedgee. With what you've been through, they'd have been told in no uncertain terms where they could stick their 'helpful' PMs.

We've got polls, advice on pretty much everything from IT to places to visit on holiday, mental health support, cycling, running, music threads, Crodo's kitsch, dogs in fancy dress, rugby sweepstakes, bell cheeses at work, Fridat drinks, Joke de Jour, and much more. We even allow a few of the better behaved unwashed from up the road on here.

NSC has always been much more than just football. That's why it's just so good.

And long may that continue.

I agree HS, and I too love all that diverse stuff. We can only talk about footie for so long before we just have to wait for the next game, and then chew that apart. In the meantime......!

You forgot counting, we got counting...................one, two, three, four, five..........and I'm off to another thread......................with lots of pics.

Don't agree. It's clear that the BBC have little details concerning that and have published what they know. So they have added what they have thus far. They clearly don't know the circumstance in which it occurred- or even if it's that which we are discussing here.

They must have loved our discussion about flapjack recipes!
