Some have told me to stay off here with updates as they are bored of it, and I respect that. But equally some wanted to know how I was doing.

They can be as bored as they like. The most important thing is that you're ok.

Here's hoping that you can get on that plane.

I was at college round there in the early 90s. East London Polytechnic as was.

It completely opened my eyes to how lucky we were down in Sussex. The Governments idea of improvement was to stick concrete corporate soulless things like the DLR and Canary Wharf there to "improve" the area, but to me it just looked like a land grab. In comparison the poorer areas just looked poorer.

It is still my overall opinion of the area. I was walking another Brighton fan to the ground who was a bit lost and I explained that there was **** all in the area when I was at college and they have tarmacked it over with more **** all.

Going to the old ground was very very real and very very local. The market traders, the pie and mash shops the street sellers, the dodgy pubs. A country such as Spain (for instance) would see that as a cultural asset and even if they moved ground try and keep the atmosphere.

Arsenal isn't nearly as bad. The stadium is a bit soulless, but walking to the game is not unlike Highbury and the feeling around Finsbury park is somewhat the same.

West Ham have simply thrown their history away, it must feel like an away game every week. Probably not unlike the Spurs fans felt like at Wembley.

No wonder there is such a toxic atmosphere.

Late 70s early 80’S was a genuine golden era for them, all brought about by a genius managerial partnership.

I wish we’d have had a management team like Clough and Taylor.

That made me chuckle. :lolol:

Some have told me to stay off here with updates as they are bored of it, and I respect that. But equally some wanted to know how I was doing. So I’ll keep this brief and then stay off the subject. I spent 4 hours in A&E undergoing tests and scans this evening following the unprovoked assault by a WHU fan post match. Confirmed diagnosis severe concussion injury and whiplash, and bruising to back of skull. Updated WHU and Met Police, charge likely to be upgraded to GBH due to extent of impacts. Now back home recuperating, told symptoms will persist for up to 4 weeks. I’m due to be long hauling to Oz to see my son inside that timescale so further checks required later to give me the green light to fly. Thank you for your good wishes. I’ll stay off now, so please forgive me if I do not respond any further on here to acknowledge good wishes, just trust me they are very genuinely appreciated. I’m struggling, but I’ll get through. Barber has been excellent, as always.

WTF - really ?! It's as if our own fans are embarrassed by it or something ..? Good you got checked out, hope you make it to Aus.

Respect to WHUFC for their caring attitude and quick response, commendable. Good old Barber too!

Wishing you a full recovery and post about this whenever you feel like it.

Went to the game at the Boleyn when Guy Butters scored a few years back and had the ‘pleasure’ of being with the home fans next to the away end. It was fine until the ‘Grant Mitchell’s’ turned up just before kick off. They quickly Sussed that me, my friend and our 9 and 10 year kids were the enemy and we subjected to the most vile abuse I have ever heard directed at us, comments like ‘ how did get we here without dying from AIDS ?’ ‘How come you have kids, how does that work when you are gay’ which was 2 of the best ones. So when Guy scored with a few minutes to go, it was very hard not to jump up but I gave ‘Grant’ one of the best grins I could muster, expecting the worst beating, he Said ‘well done’ I responded with a bit of respect and fear’ think we were a bit lucky there’ for which his response was ‘if you would have celebrated I would have killed you’
Nice man. Looking back we should have moved, but I can be a stubborn git, plus we had a very supportive ‘hammer’ In front of me, who seemed to be on our side and told the ‘grants’ to shut up as there are kids around. Don’t think I have ever been in ‘home’ area since.

Why should you have to respect the fact that some people might get bored with it? What you've been through is a terrible ordeal and don't think for one second think that you should stay off the forum. I think you've coped brilliantly with everything that you've been through and has ruined the last 28 hours with giving statements to police, club officials, telling doctors how bad you feel and your family worried sick about you. I hope the concussion is sorted out and the bruising heals quickly. And I really hope you make it to Australia so fingers crossed for you fella. I'm really pleased that the piece of scum that did this to you is looking at serious charges and I hope he gets a taste of prison life - what a shame that the most famous East End villain of them all, Ronnie Kray isn't still about. The Hammer yob would cry like a girl if Ron had found out that he attacked two innocent members of the public. A nice 'Chelsea smile' would make his life hell inside. There's always that chance.

I really hope you get to read our messages of support to you. We look after our own on here and even if we comfort you just slightly, it will all be worth it. Try not to worry mate about the immediate future. Your recovery is the most important thing and just take it one day at a time. Hopefully you'll be at the Amex next Saturday for the Watford game.

Please, please keep us updated on your progress. There might be some things you may not be able to say on here with the police and hopefully the court case very soon so we understand. Stay strong, seagullwedgee. The whole of NSC family is supporting you. :albion:

Sadly, you are correct.
Thank you especially to Durlston for that long and heartfelt message, very very much appreciated.

All the best for the recovery, I got concussion recently and whenever I took a long journey (I’m talking eg a trip to the amex or across London, not to Aus) I had a few really bad days afterwards. Nausea, headaches, clumsiness, difficulty concentrating etc. I have broken probably a third of all my mugs and managed to miss a chair completely when trying to sit down. I’ve cut out any “long” trips for a little while. The specialist said recovery is different for everyone. I’m a month in and feel I’m now out the other end but need to test that. Make sure your doctor clears a trip to Aus otherwise you might really struggle out there.

I'm shocked. This thread has gone to show how badly wired some people's heads are.

Take it easy.

Seriously, wasn’t Glenn brilliant yesterday? He seemed so much more mobile than I thought he had left in him, and he kept going the whole way. If he really has got another years contract fair play to him. I’ve not heard a dickie bird myself, but fair play to him, he must be our only ever striker tos core for us in three decades surely?

seagullwedgee - I have reported your post to the mods. It sounds like a straightforward misuse of the PM system and not something which should be tolerated.
