Anderson invited opposition MPs to visit a food bank in his constituency, where he said that meals could be made for 30p a day, and which also provided a mandatory teaching course to its users.[33] It is for these comments that Anderson has been referred to by the nickname '30p Lee' by his critics and across social media.

But every country has some bigots, and they represent a minority fringe of the population, you don’t pander to them.
In the same way that a sensible political party should also not pander to idealism without taking into account human nature.
Pandering to either set of outliers whittles away at your support in the centre ground inhabited by the less bigoted/more pragmatic individuals that form the majority of our society.
The Conservative Party in its current form, to speak frankly, needs burning down and starting again from scratch.

depends if that group is growing or shrinking. these are people that think they are being ignored, they dont like focus on other areas. even though things may be net worse for them, and they aren't traditional Conservatives, might vote that way because someone is speaking for them.
talking to @chickens point, ignoring the bigots probably lost Brown an election and certainly has changed voting patterns the past decade. better to change their minds, not tell them they are wrong.
Your last line is spot on. So how is appointing Lee Anderson - a lying, opinionated gammony bigot - as deputy chairman working to "change their minds"? If anything it normalises that line of thinking.
