Is that a really token result?

I remember reading a book by Mark Steele (the comedian) providing some gallows humour on the 1983 election, saying how dreadful it was, then LABOUR HOLD JARROW, flashed up.

It was still a dreadful night, perhaps especially due to the fact that was a consolidation!

We shall see.

I'm not surprised, the arrogance and general unapproachableness of souls such as Mr Bodfish doesn't surprise me.

Brighton is FAR better than 1986...but could be better than it is now.
Know what you mean - I think Brighton would a toilet if the Tories had been in power during the late 80s and into the 90s.

Labour's only saving grace from your post is that Ken Bodfish is no longer the leader of the Labour group - that dubious honour is held by Simon Burgess.

The Tories have LOST control of Hastings thanks to by-elections taking place today. There's no full council election there.
Oh well, maybe change is for the better.

Interestingly -- the Lib Dems have gained a few trophy councils such as Hull, but they've lost lots of individual seats... suggesting that they're being beaten by the Tories to a greater extent than Labour is...

Which is GOOD news for us.

My prediction is...

The Tories will be the largest party in the city, BUT... Labour and the Greens (who I reckon will also make gains - albeit mainly at Labour's expense) will form an alliance to oust the Tories and to keep the council power.

We'll see.
I'll go along with that.

My official prediction of the outcome for Brighton & Hove:-

[number of councillors]

Conservatives 22
Labour 17
Green Party 11
Liberal Democrats 2
Brighton and Hove Independents 1

Um, that's only 53 councillors. The city has 54.

The City Council's website says the Tories have 19 seats. The BBC say it's 20.
