I'd say two leagues of 20. Then Top 8 from each league go into a 16 team knockout competition. Same for the 2nd 8 from each league. Then the bottom 4 from each league can have a mini league.

Tied positions settled on head to head.

Top 2 -> Champions League knockout
Mid 2 -> Europa League knockout
Bottom 2 -> knockout competition for the remaining flids

As soon as this starts I'll be resigning all my games that I have on the go with NSCers. Just got too many to concentrate on. One game at once for me. Appologies to all I'm playing as I'm being rubbish at replying.

Think that would be over in 4 weeks. Only 9 games, unless you are playing people twice. Also you've got to expect a few people to drop out and not play games, which might have quite a big effect in small groups.

Yep, that's what appeals to me really. People will get bored and drop out in the longer game, making a bit of a mockery of it IMO.

I think whatever format it takes, there should be an element of promotion/relegation, as that will make final games far more exciting, and mean a reason for continuing.

We now have forty one players.

How about three leagues of ten and one with eleven? One match against each other and then a promotion and relegation between the four leagues. Completely random to start off with and then assuming it takes off, it will level itself out.

Or 8 groups of six (one with seven) and the top two go into a knockout competition and the remaining 21 have a seperate competition with byes for the best runners up?
