Kos would be a happy medium IMHO. Lively enough, but not chav central. Beaches are good.

Thanks. This question is to Cheeky Monkey too..

Friends want to stay nearish Kardamena. I know that is the liveliest part but as far as I know, not the nicest. In terms of beaches and things to do, what side of the island would be better to stay near? One side is Kefalos with Paradise beach and the other is Kos Town...

We're looking into the same kind of thing. At the moment Zante (Laganos) is our number one going on what people have said, i'd go with the advice abroad and avoid Malia, I know wherever you go you'll have a few twats about, but Malia topps them all.

We've found hotel, flights and transfers for about £360 each going early August.[/QUOTE]

who did you book with?

We never usually go to the same place twice but we've just booked Kos again for two weeks this summer. Absolutely loved it last year. I'd say Kos Town would be your best place to stay in terms of stuff going on and Turkey is only a fifteen minute ferry ride away.

Almost this.
Kos is the ONLY destination I've been back to [the world is a big place] - but family needs are well met in Tingagki[sp]. Stayed in the same appartment block from 4 years earlier.
In my younger days I did an 18-30 to Corfu - Benetsis - crap beach but plenty of totti.
You all keep referring to Malia - is that the place on Crete?
I'm too old for all the night life stuff now but over the years I've done Greece probably 15 times.
All good, no bad experience - weather was great everywhere too but Crete was my favouite as there was always a breeze. And if you want a bit of culture, take a day trip up to the valley of a 1000 mills and then go down in to the cave where Zues was aledged to have been born & bred.

Zante - went there and proposed to the missus
Helkadike - went on honeymoon here

Love the place, the people, the weather, just there poxy alphabet ....

Rhodes is a good bet, i would recommend Rhodes Town or Lindos/Pefkos! Rhodes town has it all; bars, clubs, live music venues, history, beaches, marina, casino, gentlemen bars! anything you want from your holiday; it accommodates all tastes and ages, it can be expensive in the old town tho! Lindos is a small village, you can walk everywhere - well you have to - it's mainly pedestrianised! 3 lovely beaches, very friendly people, good nightlife, a truly beautiful place. Some of the self-catering accommodation can be an issue (if that's a priority for you) but the hotels are ok/good. Pefkos is a purpose built resort nearby that maybe cheaper and only a short taxi ride from Lindos. All of these places are about a 20 min taxi ride from Faliraki if you want to see what it's like for a night out! If you are going in July/August I hope you like the heat......Lindos/Pefkos on average are 10C hotter than elsewhere on the Island....it will be over 40C everyday in those months no matter what BBC weather tells you. So if that's any issue Rhodes Town would be a better bet for you.

First choice, Thomas cook, 2wentys, teletext holidays. There all about that price, that was leaving 8th July, and was the same price for leaving 8th August.

Went to Laganos for an evening whist on a sailing holiday around the Ionian Islands a few years ago and can quite honestly say it was the worst resort I've ever been to. People throwing up, passing out, falling off mopeds, fighting and getting run over. However, those that were still conscious did seem to be having fun:lolol:

Would be a week of pure carnage and no sleeping. :rave:

Is that what you're doing then? Kardamena in Kos which I'm looking at is a similar type holiday but a little 'toned' down :lolol:

Good call! It's a decent resort. I went there a couple of years ago. Booked the very cheap accomodation off tinternet, seduced by the 'no children' blurb. Only realised when I was getting on the coach at the airport that I'd accidentally booked meself on a Club 18-30 package - despite being a couple of decades too old to qualify!

Cool, so would you say it was fairly lively but not too chav infested?

Also, what are Kefalos and Kos Town like for a group of 19 year olds? (I know they are opposite ends of the island, so would likely only visit one or the other)

Yup. Its got a pretty laid back bar street with some decent bars n clubs and on Saturday afternoons you can choose which Premier League match to watch, position yourself right and you can watch about three at the same time! Beach is excellent and there's plenty of places to eat. Though there's certainly plenty of Brits around, many of them young and fit and Northern, its not overly chavvy. I'd go back -tho probably not on a Club 18-30 package

Just went to Kos Town this summer gone with the mrs. The beach isn't a stunner but is pretty nice and has the usual watersports etc, theres a lot of the usual touristy bars etc (mostly Dutch for some reason), and there is an area full of late-night drinking places more English-orientated, although this is probably pretty small if heavy nights out are what you're after. It is FULL of ruins, and has a really good feel of a mix between a tourist-friendly resort and a proper working, local town. Personally we had a great time - depending on what you and your mates want in a holiday it could be perfect as you can have a good night out, but theres way more to it. Lads holidays have never really been my thing, but if you properly want to get tanked I'd imagine its pretty quiet.
