You seem to forget the Tories ONLY have 197 seats, unfair due to the FPTP system. Labour have over 360. It would take a big swing towards Cameron for him to be able to walk it, even if he made massive progress.

Labour were on 271 in 1992, the Tories 336.

If, as is being widely touted, Blair steps down tomorrow then securing a (hopefully) lasting peace in Northern Ireland will be a fitting legacy.
