Lamptey tearing down the right wing, Cucurella down the left with Mwepu and Bissouma dominating the midfield.

I can't wait.

Def. managing my expectations so far as Lamptey is concerned - certainly for the first half of the season. He hasn’t played since before Christmas so I expect his reintroduction to be carefully managed. I reckon he will used sparingly and won’t be encouraged to go full throttle. Unrealistic and unfair to expect him to come straight back in and be the player he was last autumn.

You're right to be cautious about Lamptey's return, but thankfully he should be able to get back to his previous lightning quick best.

As this section taken from an article in 90 minutes states, modern surgery has improved to the point where the chances of making a full recovery are very high.

Lots of high profile players have suffered hamstring injuries during their careers, but some have been affected more seriously than others. While not quite a death knell for an individual's career, hamstring injuries have blighted some of the best footballers in the world.

Michael Owen

When Michael Owen burst onto the scene for Liverpool and England in the late 1990s, his lightning pace was one of the chief weapons in his arsenal. The sight of the precocious striker drifting effortlessly past defenders filled fans' hearts with excitement and joy, but everything changed when he suffered a serious hamstring injury at the age of 19 in a game against Leeds United.

"Getting that massive injury at Leeds has probably changed and shaped my whole career," Owen told the Telegraph in 2012. "Since I was 19, I’ve been compromised. If I did that now, it would be surgically repaired like it’s brand new. I wouldn’t even know I had an injury. Back then you just let it go.

"I basically run on two hamstrings on my right leg and three on the other. I’m losing a third of the power. If I hadn’t done that, 90 per cent of the other injuries wouldn’t have happened. I would have been the all-time leading scorer for England."

Despite the major setback, Owen went on to play for the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Newcastle United, scored 40 goals in 89 games for England and won the Ballon d'Or.

Ousmane Dembele

Barcelona's €105 million signing Ousmane Dembele suffered a serious hamstring tear on his full La Liga debut for the Catalan side back in September, which has ruled him out of action for a period of four months

Dembele's sustained a rupture to the biceps femoris in the game against Getafe and the France international travelled to Finland the day after the extent of the injury was confirmed in order to undergo surgery.

The gravity of Dembele's injury was aptly captured when his new team-mates wore shirts with the message 'Courage Ousmane' in the aftermath.

However, unlike Michael Owen, who felt the effects of his hamstring tear throughout his career, 20-year-old Dembele's chances of making a full recovery are boosted by the fact that the medical technology to treat the issue has improved.

I'm trying not to think about Cucurella too much until he's actually signed, because I'd be really disappointed if we don't get him. He's the signing I really want this summer.

I remember saying last year, that a specialist left wing back like Lamptey, could transform us. The balance our team would have with Lamptey and Cucurella as wing backs is an exciting thought. Teams would really struggle with the width that would create. They wouldn't be able to focus on one player, so it would stretch them, which would create space in the centre for other players.

I know what you mean, but its hard not to get excited.

Getafe's president has said “We have had several offers, the strongest is from an English team that continues to persist and that has offered him a good contract and he was ready.

“Now when he comes back we will see if he stay but I think not.”

That sounds pretty conclusive.

Lets hope he doesn't go on his holibobs before making a decision.
We need Barber and Ashworth to get him in a headlock as soon as his Olympics are over.

Not sure they ever said he wasn't training, just that his recovery was taking longer than expected and they were being careful to see how he/his body responded? Still doesn't necessarily mean he has a chance of making pre-season matches or start of the season

Aaron Connolly posted a picture of Lamptey amongst a group that looked like they were walking out to training at Lancing yesterday.

So has Lamptey's non involvement in pre season so far been because he's had further complications with his injury or is it we're just easing him back in?

According to the Argus, there is no return date for Lamptey at the moment so it sounds like he’s a long way off. Bad news for us and even more so for Tariq as it must be so frustrating that he cannot recover from the injury despite having the surgery.

I think the club is possibly keeping him under wraps for two reasons, easing him in gently AND waiting til the end of the transfer window.

Yes, I think that MUST be it.

"Hello - how much are you looking for for Ben White please?"

"Ah - I'm sorry. We just sold him to Arsenal."

"Oh. Right. Well what about Lewis Dunk?"

"Lewis? Not for sale I'm afraid."

"Oh. Well have you got any other defenders?"

"Well, there's young Tariq. Mind you he hasn't kicked a ball since before Christmas and has just had surgery on his hamstr...hello?...hello?"

Really miss seeing Lamptey play! He is the most exciting and energy filled player I have watched play for us in 35+ years of watching the Albion. Vicente is definitely a close second but I honestly see an even bigger potential in TL if he can stay fit. If it came to a choice of keeping hold of Ben White or Lamptey it would be Lamptey all day long for me. A very exiting prospect and hope we keep hold of him for a while!

That's the spirit.

Quite.

A medical degree and the predictive powers of Eva Petulengro. I'm so envious
