Stewards are wankers

yawn yawn

some people have part time jobs for a variety of reasons: boredom, additional income or even just to get away from the wife

that doesn't mean that 'we will be signing on in the morning'
A lot of the stewards are albion fans but for reasons known only to them they are stewarding instead of spectating.

Just face it, if you act like a d*ck you will get chucked out, being a steward is a job and we do have to do what we are told no matter how silly it may seem.

also, regarding the away end; things were fine until 3 people went on the track and from my understanding a few drunk teenagers were not listening to what stewards and the police told them, the lad who got chucked out understood and accepted why he was ejected.

believe it or not, the majority of stewards would rather not have to come into the stands and moan, I would rather everything just went smoothly but that just wont happen.

see you all next season

Oh and while were here, I love the way you lot always get all big and tough when such big teams as Rushden, Yeovil e.t.c. come down, when its Millwall or Leeds your all to pussy to even get in the stand with them let alone ASK them to do something

I'm sure if I had been posted there for those games I would be able to comment on that. I was there for the Rushden game and their fans had a huge chip on their shoulders and some real hatred towards the football league and any clubs in it and were generally being idiots and abusive to the female stewards.

It's very easy to be tough and talk about being pussy when yor behind a keyboard...

What was the old bloke in the blazer escorted from the Yeovil end for, just after the game started? Had he been on the zoider or something?

The jobsworthyness of a couple of the Hi-Viz mob scaled new depths at the H/T interval yesterday. They were clearing people off the wee grass bank twixt the end of the South & the roach coaches; pointing to the sign(s) at the top saying 'Please keep off the grass banks'. After they had manfully f***ed off the last of the inconsiderate interlopers, I heard one of 'em utter: "Can't these people read?" Then, after a decisive pause to presumably allow his colleague to digest the hideous personal consequences of an athletics stadium full of stripey illiterates , he went into H&S overdrive & uttered the almost legendary line: "Somebody could fall over & hurt their ankle!" (complete with a look of amazement & deliberate, slow shaking of head-type motion).

It's a miracle we ever get to see a game of football.

I spoke to a steward and they were told to sit down 3 or 4 times and were also standing on the chairs that's why they got thrown out.

how did they manage to bring chairs into the ground?

It's also very easy to be tough when you're faced with a few lairy teenagers, as long as you have some other mindless little Hitlers to follow you round. Why is it that stewards at so many of the grounds in the football league are seemingly told to allow some leniancy (ie. let some people make an atmosphere or the match experience which we're selling will be utterly SHIT) yet apparently at Withdean we have to employ a load of people who failed their copper fitness test who like nothing better than stifling ANY kind of life.

See, that steward was totally focused on crowd safety, apparently NOT bullying or cajoling from a hunger for power.

They can't win!

Another thing some thick plugs don't get, is that even with the mighty forces of Millwall and Leeds United coming down to our rice-paper running track of a ground - we have an exemplary record AGAIN!
Sometimes it's about the situation on the day, and wading into or dispersing large away-fan contingents before they depart into residential Withdean JUST to keep a bunch of permanently disgruntled 'chaps' happy in the South Stand (who miss half the game doing wanker signs at people they never met) is not interesting or a fruitful pursuit.

Also when there's a pitch invasion - there's as much worry and instruction about the safety and health of the crowd at that moment, as there is for players and other participants and staff.

That some of you 'don't get it' is never a surprise, and as always you will blah blah :bla:   like Johnny-Rebels-without-a-cause ....or sense much of the time. :nono:

To all others - CONGRATS on being an integral part of one of the best fanbases in the league, in keeping patient and understanding through all the tribulations, and in many ways contributing to the ground-quest that is now seeing fruition in Falmer. YOU have been BRILLIANT! :clap2:

Sorry, I'm sure you mean well, but having a steward coming on here telling people who are good fans or not is a little hard to take. I'm sure there are wankers who break the rules, but if you decide to become a steward don't expect anyone to believe that you have any idea about what constitutes good football supporters, as it's unlikely to be the people you probably love who sit there silently all game.

Ah yes, OUR stewards are unique - completely unlike every other steward workforce across the league. Riiight! You go to away games do ya?

Ah but they ARE a bit special - they manage at WITHDEAN.

But, so you have a better understanding of how the organization works, here's a film from a steward supervisor meeting, and subsequent briefing;

Some of the stewards are from the Albion fanbase mate.
I'm ex-Goldstone North Stand, been watching The Albion since I was 5, when I used to go around the corner from where I lived (mere yards from Hove Station).
I steward for a club up North now, so my knowledge of what constitutes good football supporters has extended.

Withdean is special. Staying there this LONG without any major issues has been special (one more season to go!), and the fine line that BHAFC stewarding has to walk to keep everything there going fine - INCLUDING keeping good 'that' parking area, the pub, the streets and residents outside, the transport and lego stands without roofs, and etc - they really do a magic job.
Some fans do 'get' that, and it's most important that the League authorities and local council 'get' that too.

Yes I do, hence the fact that I notice that in many other grounds there is a section of fans allowed to stand, which improves the atmosphere immeasurabely. I'm not saying that's the case everywhere.
