Played cricket against him when he was 15, he ran out our opening batsman who was on 199 and raising his bat to acknowledge first ever double century in the history of the South Lancs League off the last ball of the match.

Cracking player, and a very nice bloke too.

A better all round footballer than Beckham. If he had had the superstar looks and not been an ugly little gingernut he would have been recognised as one of the world's best; just ask Zidane and other's he has played against in Europe.

A truly outstanding player who scored some great goals, made passing balls 70 yards look as simple as a 1 yard pass, made some eye watering tackles and most impressive of all, made space for himself whenever he had the ball. I heard owen is trying to convince him to come to the albion with him next year :)

10 league titles. Incredible. Most players would kill for one.

One of my fav players of all time, all round game was superb and played at the right tempo all the time, some great goals in there as well, would have hated to play against him as always in your face, if he had not retired from international football so early, he would have been the regular in the middle of the park instead of Lampard.

Scholes must be the most praised and well-regarded under-rated player of all time

A point on semantics - can you be the most praised and under-rated at the same time ?

Yes just look at Paul Scholes . The paper's tomorrow will be full of articles about how brilliant Paul Scholes and how under-rated he is, even though all anyone ever says about Paul Scholes' is how brilliant and under-rated he is
