We probably also played Bolton away (at their old ground) around that time ?

The two "local" games I went to as a student in Manchester.

Ah, I remember that Bolton game.....what a shit, depressing place Bolton was/is :nono:

Anyone there that day will know what a stinker a certain young Paul McCarthy had that day, and I told him as much when I saw him a couple of years ago!! (He rolled his eyes at me and told me that people have been mentioning that game to him and his abject performanc for years!!!!)

In those days, losing to Bolton was a big thing as we were in a higher division, believe it or not.

Way out west
I was there, right at the back of the stand, taking the mickey out of the prawn sandwich brigade. Great day out, pity about the result, good performance from a fairly decent Albion side.

I was there for the wet afternoon in Manchester.

The upper tier and roof of the Stretford End was not completed at that time so those in the lower tier had no cover and were provided with 'ponchos'. There were a couple of cranes at that end as well with them working on turning Old Trafford into the 'wrap around roofed' bowl it was before they started adding 3rd & 4th tiers.

Albion & England forever.

That was my first away game, travelled up on the train where Terry Christian off of the Word tolds us we were going to get hammered, and only a piece of Giggs magic stopped us getting a point. McClair's disallowed goal and the manc's reaction was particularly amusing

I was there and for the league cup game earlier that season when we pissed them off singing they would never when the league. The last season that could be sung.

They were getting well anxious with 20 mins to go at 0-0.

Great days hard days but great days.
