"Naseem Hamed has revealed he will never fight rising British boxing star Amir Khan.

The 31-year-old former world featherweight champion has announced plans to make a comeback to the ring after a three-year absence.

Hamed has been offered a six-fight deal by an American TV network but he insists he will not fight light-welterweight Khan, 18, for religious reasons.

Hamed told the Yorkshire Post: "To be honest, Amir Khan is a different weight to me and I think he is going to get bigger - but there is one thing that I have always stuck to and I always will do, I will never fight another Muslim.

"I might spar with him, or teach him a few tricks but - even if there was a billion dollars on the line - I would never get in the ring with another Muslim. It is against my principles."

Hamed won the WBO featherweight title in 1995 and added the IBF crown two years later and the WBC version in 1999.

Two years later his undefeated run ended against Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera and his last fight was an unconvincing points victory against Spain's Manuel Calvo more than three years ago."

Yeah, right. Not racism, common sense, Khan would slaughter him. Hamed got caught for speed at the end of his career, and the cockiness was no use against people that knew he could be put on his arse. Khan is faster, and even ignoring the weight difference would probably still do Hamed now. I remember being in a pub and seeing them all cheer at the look on his face when he hit the canvas for the first time - no-one likes a cocky fighter, no matter how good they are. The only one that got away with that was Ali.

Hamed is just touting for publicity to restart his career. If he's getting paid to fight, he will fight anyone.

Bully boy that quit as soon as he got hurt, absolutely no chance of lasting a round with Khan.

I'd like to know why Hamed thinks it's more acceptable to inflict pain on a non-Muslim than a Muslim.

There was a time when Hamed would never duck a fight. He purports to be a good Muslim but it seems to me the only motivation he's got to box again is The Great God Of Money.

I think he is scared of losing to Khan, but is hiding behind his religion to try and justify avoiding it.

I seem to recall Evander Holyfield took his Christianity seriously but didn't mind battering other Christians.

Of course it's a form of racism.

Tell you what, when I go out with my mates on a Friday night, I'll make sure we try to pick a fight with a bunch of Muslims. There, that's OK ain't it, not racist at all.:nono:

I wonder what these all have in common? (Hint, it isn't race).

Ooh, ooh, I know!

They have all had varying degrees of success at growing a beard. Ali's is a particularly sad attempt, being little more than stubble, Arafat has failed to fill in the gaps and has rogue hair on his cheeks. Musharraf has not grasped the concept of getting the hair off of his upper lip and onto the chin, whereas Cat Stevens has really embraced the idea - what a beautiful morning he must have when he wakes up and is confronted by that facial bush!

Where's the racism? He's a Muslim himself isnt he?

I guess the argument is that if I say I wouldn't fight another white or Christian fighter, I would be accused of racism. It's a valid point.
