Poyet's Post Match Comments - Did he really mean that?

No, like a lot of people on here you have NO opinion, you just want to comment on other people, which is really boring and the sign of somebody who has nothing to say.

I'd rather say nothing and be boring than come out with the tripe that you post.

Progress is the key word. We are not progessing. We are heading for a completel de ja vu of a season. Great start, crap run that puts us mid table.

We have a much better squad, but don't appear to be progressing. If I had come away from Flamer yesterday and thought we was unlucky to lose I could handle it. Middlesbrough done a job on us, and Gus had no answer.

I come away from the Ipswich match, thinking how lucky we were not to get done 2 or 3-0.

Read interesting quote from Gus today that if we dont win Tuesday he'll go and get this striker and change it.... he needs to, because I think the clocks might starting clicking for him soon, if he fails to turn things around sooner than he's managed to in the past.

I think it's obvious that I am almost unlikely to ever agree with you.

Were I think that having a solid defence and creating a lot of chances is an improvement on last season and sign of progress, you clearly don't.

I also don't think that a few bad results in our second season in the Championship with over half the season left warrants a clock ticking.

As for the new players, some will take longer than others to fit in, so although on paper we have a better squad, that may take a while to translate into points.

Anyway as I've said, we won't agree. You seem to have different expectations to me. I am prepared to wait, be patient and I cannot see a viable alternative to Gus. I certainly wouldn't want a "promotion specialist" like Warnock or Fat Sam.

Can be heard here

BBC Sport - Brighton 0-1 Middlesbrough

The bit I'm on about starts at around 1:40

The three teams (Ipswich, Borough, Birmingham) did nothing to win... even though two of them did, but he says if my team went away from home and done that, he would be disappointed.

Happy with the result, but not happy in the long term.

I think he's lost the plot. Surely he didnt mean that. Seems he would rather play well and attacking (bang your head against a brick wall football), not score and lose, then play ugly and win. And that's why I dont believe, (and haven't since last season) that he is a top class manager, that so many on here give him credit for.

Asked what if other teams play the same against us. We will have to deal with it. And there's the problem he can't.

We cannot play through teams that come and park the bus. That is obvious.

We cannot go over them as we have no target man.

We cannot go around them as he starts with all his wingers on the f***ing bench!

So how do we deal with it Gus??? You're the boss, f***ing sort it.

He then says if we score first/early we'll put seven past someone. Can't ague with that, its the ten games winless runs we have inbetween that bother me.

Then Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray says: "You have to prepare properly to face Brighton as they have an exceptionally good side"

Yer, prepare properly because their manager has no f***ing clue how to play against a side that does prepare properly, unless they are gifted an early goal, just as next bottom Ipswich, struggling Birmingham and now Middlesbrough have done.

I think anyone who sat through that today, and still think Poyet is our best ever manager or the man to lead us to the premiership, needs a serious reality check.

Keep the faith.... not no more.

Well said ..... Agree with every word.

Sorry but it get worse and worse.

GUS:Should we start talking about the striker we didn’t get? Well it’s up to the players that play on Tuesday to make sure we don’t, because if not I will.

“It’s very easy to go and try to convince one player to come here and give us a lift up front, so it depends on the players.

“I don’t think the chairman would disagree with me that maybe if we don’t score on Tuesday we need a player. I think it’s an easy decision, then if we can get it or not we’ll see.

So let me get this right. If we don't score Tuesday, he'll go and get another striker.

If we do score Tuesday, he won't?

He belongs on NSC with one game views like that.

Incredible thing for him to say.

I think its fair to say Gus is certainly starting to feel the pressure judging by these weekends comments.

What a strange thing for a manager to say.

So he's basing a loan signing on one game????

f*** me, we either need someone or we don't.

He's starting to lose the plot I'm afraid.

Teams KNOW we are good (far better than last year imo) so sit & defend and hope to get a goal and sit on it. How many other teams have oppositions that go to them and defend for most the game? They do against us because they KNOW we're good and they onto a hiding if they play an open game. At the moment, the teams so far who've got good results against us are happy and "lucky" in that we've not been effective at breaking down defending teams.

The players/Gus will need to work to break down a team that's defending a lead (or even hoping for a draw), once they do, oppositions will have no chance (and they know it hence how they play against us). Over a season, there are loads of teams that have far more problems than we have e.g there are many that take the lead in games and end up not winning. Many that have defensive problems etc. The solution may be from within or we *may* need to get another attacking player if the current one/two can't do it.

Personally, I think a team will soon get an hiding from us, once we manage to score first!

Keep the faith, we're pretty close to having the whole(ish) package. Yes, we've had a few crappy results but it's NOT as if we're losing 3:0 all the time, it's always that one goal in it and teams defending for their lives.

IF, over the WHOLE season, we've still not worked out how to break the oppo down when they go 1 up and defend, THEN there's a problem. As it stand, it appears we have only the one *real* problem, many teams would probably sacrifice a few good results at the moment for having this only one problem. I'll re-iterate, it's a marathon, not a sprint, let's see how (if) we've progressed in the new year.

High up on the South Downs.
Gus has nearly completed 3 years in charge. The first 18 months were incredible and winning Div 1 was a magnificent achievement. Since May 2011 he has had some money to spend and consolidated well last season. This season he has signed an excellent keeper and two excellent full backs. The defence is sound. From the first game at Hull onwards, I have enjoyed watching the away games. At home things have been ponderous in the last 3 games and the team have managed 1 goal in four and a half hours. I'm not expecting promotion and know that the championship is tough. However, I hope that there will be more energy in our first half performances, more goals and more entertainment ......lets see.

Well put.

I would like to see us with a more attacking formation at home and the 4-1-4-1 did nothing for me on Saturday especially with no wingers. I am concerned the loss of Noone will have more of an effect than people realise.

I don't think you appreciate the fine line he has to walk with interviews. He has to appease fans who want the quick sign a player solution, players who can produce being cajoled or encouraged to step up without having their confidence knocked by the public criticism and fear for their place, he has to remain open to possibilities without confirming anything that he might have to go back on.

Specifically with the quote you've torn apart and extrapolated from:

He hasn't said he will sign a player if we don't score tuesday, he said he sit down with Tony Bloom and discuss it. - He can't say we will in case players turn him down, Bloom sys the budget can't fit the player he wants, etc.

He hasn't said we won't sign a player if we do score on tuesday, he's said it's up to the players that play on tuesday to convince him he doesn't need to. - He can't say we won't because the right player might become available and be signed regardless of the upswing in form of our players.

It's a nothing answer to a generic question from the media that you are reading into too much.
