As someone who has listened to the phone-in from time to time this describes what I have heard every time and is why I listen to 5 live instead. A few years ago you could listen to local radio on the way back from the game and get some inmformed comment from players or manager. Now all you seem to get is a bunch of idiots phoning in to a show where the agenda is always the same - negative. It was time to change the record years ago.

If you want to hear positivity and praise go and talk to Liz Costa and Co, if you want negativity listen to the phone-in. Complaining that football phone-ins are negative is a bit like moaning that dogs have 4 legs and bark.

One thing that I still find really odd is that last year it was generally agreed that the costs of the stadium applications of £3.5million would be transferred to the Stadium Company, thereby not affectiong the running of the club - and allowing funds to be ploughed back into the playing side......if so that does not appear to have happened OR funds were never going to be made available!!!

Thats my understanding as well ...but ...its probably just switching funds from one black hole to another ..ie falmer costs to general club running costs.
It would be intersting to hear the true position.

As luck would have it I have the complete transcript from Harty's "Hour of Power"

The section 5.30-5.45 reads as:
Harty:
"......completly covered in hair!, anyway cheers Dave, now over to Steve in Hove, Thanks for holding on mate, who would you put in you Albion legends squad?...or should that be Leg- Ends?"

Budgie Byrne "chortle, very good Harty"

Harty:

"Sorry Steve what did you want to say mate?"

*off mike sounds of crisps rustling and harty shouting at Gullys Girls*

Steve From Hove:

"What has Happened to the Money from Zamora, Kazim Richards and Virgo? Has Dick shoved it under his matress?"

Harty:

"Good one Dave!,heh heh..Yes, well that was Steve from Hove saying something or other, Dick Knight needs to come on here and put the cans on so he can tell us himself how great he is and how he saved the club, now over to Hawesy who is with Dean Wilkins"

If we're going to get £3.5m back into the club's coffers, where's it going to come from? The stadium funding package - which we haven't had yet.

TLO, you are doing it again... stating the bleeding obvious... and spoiling the enjoyment of the miserable old hectors.

Anyway, I thought the silliest idea was from Harty himself, asking why we can't palm the odd million out of the stadium money for players.

Why?

Surely one of the surefire ways to fill the said stadium, after the initial honeymoon period, is to provide a decent team playing at a decent standard.

If the Albion were at Falmer this season in League One, what crowds would we be looking at with ticket prices around the same kind of level as they are at the Withdean?

Isn't it called embezzlement?

At the risk of committing TLO's crime of stating the bleedin' obvious ...

If you needed to borrow £150,000 to buy a house, would you go to your lender and fix up a loan for £150,000 and then decide it was a good idea to blow £2,000 of this on a trip to Caesar's Palace, leaving you with only £148,000 to purchase the house? What would you do when the vendor told you to piss off?

If your bank is prepared to lend you an extra £2,000 for a trip to Vegas, fair enough. But what financial institution is out there, prepared to lend the Albion £1 million (repayable over 40 years) to buy a footballer or two? Or are you suggesting that, on this occasion, "Silent" Knight should live up to his name and just forget to mention how he's going to spend the bank loan?

How do you think Harty Financed his recent trip?...what muppet gets a loan for exact amount you need to do the work?, you always go a bit heavy to cover all contingencies!

Thats why he has no roof on his conservatory and is telling his Mrs. it's a convertible.

Presumablyy the same financial institutions that have seen the construction costs increase by £9 million in two years
