but you dont think theres a little more in it?
In terms of signing for Brighton, no. Ok, let's allow ourselves to dream in cuckoo land for a minute - no one would be happier to be proved wrong than me, the guy scored England's best goal of all time, he's not 38 he's 31, he's Michael f***ing Owen FFS. It would be amazing if he signed for us, we are a small club (on the up maybe, but that doesn't mean we're near the top 20 teams).

And... open your eyes, you're back in the room.

if they were just friends they could pick up a phone, hes not gonna drive down 3 - 4 hours from Manchester for a coffee is he? surely you have to think there is a little more in it, maybe not about us maybe it could have been there business but it would not just be friends.
Well he may have been down this way anyway for other reasons, or if he really did travel down just to see Tony then maybe they are interested in something else together - Michael likes gambling, Tony is an expert etc.

But to sign for us - why would he?
there are several reasons to sign for a club, he only has to fit one, so lets go through them:
* money - no
* to play in a nice new stadium - no, it may be lovely but it's only 22,500 people, not exactly thrilling for someone used to playing in front of 70k.
* to be part of something - no, we're not looking to challenge for promotion to the premiership in the next couple of years, we've just signed Hoskins, which while a great signing, is hardly top of the championship stuff
* to be close to home etc - no
* to play for the club he supported as a kid - no
* because there are no better offers - no, there are only a handful of clubs that wouldn't want him (at the wages we could offer)

It's a lovely idea, but I just can't think of one reason why he'd want to play for us.

What if he fancied his chances and took on the mighty lizard in a game of poker. The stakes were high and each of them thought they had the upper hand. Owen puts in three queens. Tony bloom slams down four aces and history is made. Michael Owen has lost everything. The housed, the horses, the cars and the bars. Tony says come play for us and I'll forget the wager. Michael feels this is the only way forward, so joins the Gus bus. Well how else do you explain it..
Alternatively ... it was Bloom who had the queens and Owen the aces.

No wonder Owen's been down to Brighty. He wants to inspect his winnings.

When did Tony Bloom piss on your chips? Just about every post of yours about him and the running of the Club since he took over from Knight has been negative.
