I was quoting from official statistics for 2002 so I am only believing what I read - which is a risky thng to do I know.

Brilliant thread though.

Just a shame this country is a tad on the small side really. I always find it fascinating that two of the largest countries in the world, Canada and Australia, only have populations in the region of 20 million a piece (but then again quite substantial portions of both those countries are pretty much unihabitable).

I guess what I'm asking is is there an ideal population density, and is Britain's population density higher or lower than elsewhere? Where are we on the World League table of population density?

I looked it up as well under "Population density of the UK", but I am too tired to work it all out. Good point though made by Curious Orange.

I am sure if you lived in Dover or in London you would have a different view of immigrants coming into the UK.

I live in a predominantly Asian area of Huddersfield.

Here a lot of Asians marry people back in the original country so they can bring them back and also have a lot higher birth rate.

I had two children. My next door neighbour but one who is Pakistani in origin already has 5 children.

I still see him working hard and paying taxes. I get on very well with my neighbours.

So I don't have a different viewpoint Spicy.

I spent five years in Birmingham working with mainly Asian people and they were very pleasant and hard a very good work ethic.

Please rember where I originally come from when reading my reply.

Dover is a very different palce to the one I left. If anyone wants a good example, London Road has more variety and shops than all of Dover.

However, Puskas once cried on a ferry comming to Dover in 1953. he would be now the age of my grandad.

Those Cliffs represented freedom. Most of his generation have passed this on to their families, and so on. Therefore many cities have enjoyed the diversity of thier world neighbours comming to thier doorstep. Examples being Leeds and the Polish community. East London and it's Asiatic community, just to name two.

The town where I originally come from has it's problems primarily because over the last twenty years manufaturing and other forms of work have moved away. But it has been widly spread in certain parts of the media that all is not well. I am not going to disguise the fact it is not.

During the latter half of the ninties the biggest problem in the town was by bootlegers. During that time shootings were a regular part of life. Some of the press however decided to slant this on the recent immigrant population.

I am not saying that everyone comming to Britian is as good as gold, my own cousin was slashed at the fairground some three years ago by Kosovans. He was trying to chat up one of thier sisters, they did not like it. There are however an awful lot of people who have come to Britain to improve not only their own, but the fortunes of others.

My main part of this post, is to say that we live in a multicultral society. One that has opened my own eyes, and changed my opinions.

I work in a large multi cultural office and with the exception of one, or maybe two, have found that all people I work with are brilliant. This thread is about mass immigration though, not how well people living here have integrated into society. I am certainly not a racist and have friends of all nationalities.
