And for all those who put up Animal Kingdom, there's nothing obscure about that one at all, Jackie Weaver got a f***ing Oscar for best supporting actress - come on folks, there's a whole world outside the UK....

Agreed, but then a lot of the films on this thread are hardly 'obscure' - Sexy Beast, Control, 24 Hour Party People, In Bruges, The Pianist......

"Happiness" is obscure? I love is, so twisted and has one of the best opening scenes of any film. The dialogue is fantastic.

"Pieces of April" as well, story about a mother's (dying of cancer) last trip to see her daughter on thanks giving. The sound track is by Magnetic Fields who I also love so might be biased. Literally all filmed on a handycam but has Katie Holmes starring.

unbelievable ... love that film too. remember stumbling across it about 30 years ago as a kid and loved it . really fancied the girl in it too and used to dream about her . she was about 13 i guess so im glad those dreams stopped as i got older.

Micmacs - strangely uplifting

Amelie - again, uplifting

Down by Law - fantastic sound track by Tom Waits and featuring Tom Waits.

King of Comedy - Jerry Lewis and De Niro - great combination.

some great films on here.

for obscure, excellent films see Sundance winners. Normally a sure-fire sign.

Off the top of my head - The Escapist, Brick, the Saltan Sea...

If you want really obscure, try:

Departures (Japanese film about a Cellist-turned-undertaker).

Harold and Maude (weird friendship between a teenage boy and an old woman).

Not quite so obscure, but 'Secretary' with Maggie Gyllenhaal is good too.

Hither (sometimes Thither)
A cult classic yet to be released, if that doesn't sound oxymoronic a statement, is Asshole. On at the London Film Festival in a week or so and about a Bengali rapper who falls into drug abuse and prostitution. That's got to be weird enough. I'd go to it, but i already have 28 films in the two weeks of the festival and cannae afford any more.
