Is there any chance that the overheard monkey noises was simply someone telling the two monkeys in a bath joke.....
one says to the other.... "oo oo oo, ah ah ah" and the other one says - "if its too hot put some cold in"

I'll get my coat......

Might have been the sound of people heaving up the tasteless chicken pies?

Or perhaps they weren't in the south stand but mistakenly entered a brothel and the ooo ooo ahh ahh noises were...

Or... They were in the maternity ward by mistake. Similar noises strangely enough, and the chicken pie was, in fact, a placenta?

The only sound I heard from the South Stand that comes remotely close to monkey noises was the 'ooof when Llera 'ooofed the ball in a Buttersesque style upfield.

I was in the South Stand last night with 4 other people who were sitting next to one of the stewards separating the supporters, and none of us heard any of the things stated apart from "ooof", and the banter between supporters shouting "we can see you sneaking out". All stuff and nonsense.

This sounds like the sort of defence John Terry would use.

It is hugely unfair to tar all Albion fans because of the possible misbehaviour of a very few. At the same time, let's not pretend all Albion supporters are angels. If something happens that someone thinks is racist, and it is reported, it deserves to be investigated as such, just as with fans of any other club.

:clap::clap::clap: Definately this

Why do people on here seem to be convinced we don't have the occasional racist chanters at our ground? A friend of mine has had to report a fan before for being racist towards Kazenga Lualua, and she was the ONLY person who did so because the British mentality is generally that they don't want to cause a fuss by saying something.

If it is the case that they heard monkey noises towards black fans then they need to report them and see if any action can be taken. It needs to be shown that chants like that are unacceptable and action will be taken. Saying that I also feel that needs to be the case for any homophobic chanting.

Unfortunately, particularly with certain visiting fans, a tirade of homophobic bile is almost inevitable and could literally put people off for life. Stewarding and/or policing in this area has to be pretty robust, I think. Visiting fans should be in no doubt about what is not acceptable.

It's putting me off and I'm a lifelong fan. I refused to get on a bus with a bunch of Sheffield Wednesday fans because as soon as we got to the bus stop they started with homophobic chants. I shouldn't have to feel like that in my own city.

Be o.k if you received a mobile telephone signal inside the ground!!!:glare:

Monkey noises at Palace last season.

Didn't hear monkey noises at Palace but heard lots of racialist abuse towards Zahaha. Have heard monkey noise at an Albion game before on more than one occasion, can't recall where/when though. Also heard "You're just a town full of pakis" sung at Luton.
I can't believe people think all Albion fans are too nice to do this kind of thing and sneer at other teams fans who chant something they don't like.

I have said before if you hear it, report it. I did a few years back at Withdean and the club dealt with it in the most professional manner and informed me of the outcome.

I'm certainly not suggesting we are devoid of people chanting racist stuff, but it certainly was a misguided claim in this instance.

How do you know that your friend was the only person to report the incident you refer to? I had a quiet word with a steward about some Sheffield Wednesday fans. I didn't just get up mid game and tell everyone what I was going to do.

I agree that this is likely to be a mistake. Newcomers have to get used to football and it takes a while. What concerns me is that we should do everything possible to encourage new fans.

Putting them next to visiting supporters is not a great idea. At the same time the club must know where new/occasional supporters will be. Surely they should make sure these areas have more stewards.

Everyone was a new supporter once. They should be welcomed at the ground and on this forum.

Because it was after the game and confirmed that they hadn't had any other complaints about that certain fan. However we never actually found out the action of the complaint.

Right. Well, I am surprised that no one bothered to do anything about it until after the game had finished or challenged the offender.

Whilst your friend did finally report it, a bit pointless in retrospect.

Two friends of mine attended the Amex for the first time yesterday. One of them was the guy who flew in from Tripoli Yesterday. They had seats right on the tarpaulin separating the home and away fans, and had a great view of the first goal.

So, what didn't they like, well, first they had only a choice of chicken pie, which they binned as it was tasteless. They also didn't like the Wednesday fans foul mouthed treatment of stewards, and horrible anti gay commentary.

But far worse than that, they heard Brighton fans making monkey noises towards Wednesdays black players when they got the ball. This came from a couple of rows behind them so couldn't see the people When they were actually doing it. It was their first visit to the Amex (Kims first ever football match) so didn't really know how or what they could do about this, and no-one else did anything about it either.

They didn't know, they were first timers, but I'd urge anyone who ever hears monkey noises at the Amex to report it to stewards, don't feel intimidated, point them out.

I really think if there was genuine audible monkey noises we would have about 20 threads on here about it right now.
