Af what point did we all become gaslit into being cheerleaders for the club's accountants? ???
Fair point really. Sadly this is a modern football thing, not an Albion thing.

People happy season tickets have only increased 40 quid a season while celebrating 100 million pound profits. All a bit f***ed.

Hmm not sure.

Maybe that time we didn’t have a pot to piss in and almost went out of business?

I’ll always support the long term survival of the club over vanity spending
Yup, that. We're not that that club anymore. Absolutely zero need to think that way anymore, now the club is sloshing around in the untold millions of the EPL.

The 'long term survival of the club' was secured by Dick Knight, Martin Perry and the wider Albion community

Only takes a few seasons of mismanagement to get back there. Plenty of teams have been in the Prem and fallen into disarray.

Do I think that will happen with TB in charge? Nope. But only because he runs the club responsibly, with income from player sales being a huge part of that.

Nothing wrong with wanting to make sure we spend sensibly. Recouping fees is part of that - or shall we just give players away?

Your comment was quite odd imo but each to their own!

It looks very much like the manager does not see a role for him.

Based on what?

Last week, the "Billy is too small and doesn't score goals"-gang said the club would happily accept £12m. Now they say the club will happily accept £17m. Words from the club? "Want to keep Billy".

Based on the pre-season, the whole North Stand Chat wet fantasy about two 2 meter tall beefy lads playing in midfield seems to be just a fantasy, a sad remnant from a 1980s porno magazine.

Gilmour, Moder, Dahoud, Undav, Sima out, plus the sale of Gross: ~£80m. Maybe Igor as well, who we'd probably get our initial investment back on.

Wieffer, Minteh, Hummels, Yalcouye, O'Riley, Gomez and Kadioglu in: ~£130m

I doubt it will totally go this way, but I think that would represent a very good window for us and a sensible level of investment in the squad given our last few sets of accounts.
I don't think we'd get anywhere near what we paid back for Igor.

However we do get some compensation for RDZ I think. But I don't see that we're going to rake in £80m

You're also assuming 3 major new signings, inc Hummels for free, which is at the upper end of optimism. I reckon we might end up spending about £110m in total and at a push we might be able to get back around £50m

Which one? TB seized a business opportunity in the global recession of 2008 because he happened to have £80m sloshing about in his back pocket at the time. I just feel gutted for Dick Knight who, along with Martin Perry and the Albion community who did the hard miles just to allow Tony Bloom to swoop on that one-off discounted business opportunity in 2008 when cash was king.

The real fans know who saved the Albion. Hint: it wasn't Tony Bloom

That was then. We're now in 2024 and are an established Premier League with an incredible infrastructure throughout the football club. If you don't think that's down to Bloom's investment, business expertise and successful recruitment then you've gone totally round the bend. What Tony Bloom has achieved at the club is incredible and is a world away from where he took the club on and what the club would reasonably have been able to achieve without Bloom as owner. With massive respect to Dick Knight was 100% the right man at the right time, with the right team of people around him, there is no chance at all we'd be anywhere close to where we are now without Tony Bloom.

Portsmouth. Derby. Sheffield Wednesday. Oldham. Leeds.

Not sure what you’re on about here? Of course Dick Knight is a hero. As is every fan who marched and protested. I’m sure we’re both amongst then. What’s TB done wrong here? Very strange

All I’m saying is it’s not a bad thing that we are recouping money on players and getting good fees for players which in turn help us compete in the future.

What is so awful about that?

Really not sure how he has made a comment adding up the fees we might get for players this summer into a Bloom vs Dick Knight debate. Odd

You keep going on about this height thing, but this comes from clubs and managers first and foremost. Not that many on here want us to sell Billy or Facu.

I had a phone call from an Albion scout about my son, who for his kids team is bloody good so the scout got tipped off. First thing the fella asked me was about his height. And he's short. Few questions later, "right, might be in touch some point in the future"

And for the men's team, just look out how we fared on set pieces in Japan. For the first time in a long time, we looked a menace and we got a couple of goals in a couple of games. First time we've had aerial dominance over a team in a very long time and it worked.

We've been one of the shortest teams in the PL for a few years, and we've conceded amongst the most from dead balls and scored among the least. The theory that it's because Pascal Gross is crap isn't one I subscribe to

Just because you don't like that this is a facet of the game, it doesn't mean that isn't.

Somebody with £80m sloshing about in their back pocket in 2007l8 would 'of' bought that prime bit of real estate with planning permission secured

There are plenty of good business opportunities. Buying a homeless, historyless, completely unknown football club for £80m is not one of them.

I disagree. Inflation is real, so expect prices to go up. The profits will either be reinvested, or pay off some of the loan from Tony. Its not like he getting rich off of us

The manager and the club has said nothing about playing or buying tall, big midfielders. Its something people made up on the basis of St Pauli having some tall midfielders. That matched up with people's childhood fantasies so now people are literally living the dream - pretending the manager is going to give them what they always wanted.

In reality, one of our midfield signings this summer is 169 cm tall, while a 172 cm loan returnee has been given a lot of game time in midfield during the pre-season. And its been looking good. Much to the, I assume, surprise of many, our game won't revolve around winning aerial duels in the midfield.

It is in the face of the global meltdown of 2008 when the guy with the deep pockets just waiting in the wings swooped to nick the club off the guys and the community who had done the hard miles and the hard years to secure the planning permission for the stadium and who, in normal financial times, would 'of' had commercial funding in place. No surprise then that's zero love lost between DK and TB
