OK.....how about Culture ('Two Sevens Clash' the greatest reggae album off all time for me) Dillinger, the Kingston Ruler: Abyssinians: Johnny Clarke: Mikey Dread: U Roy ('Control Tower') LKJ : Gregory Isaacs: Toots: Steel Pulse (RAR Carnival!!) Big Youth: and these days Capleton, Yelloman, Tony Rebel.....list goes on and on..
seen many of these at Concorde 2 along with the great Roots Garden/Aces Crew sound systems...

and we have our own local reggae hero, 'Cool Brother' Andy Baron....if you like
dancehall/roots check him out, solo or with his band The Believers...

STEEL PULSE:clap:

Atilla...can you not do a weekly ...."this is whats on if you like this sort of music" in Brighton and put it on here.

A lot of us old bastards would love to hear decent reggae and I havent even heard of Andy Baron....at least it would get the wife out of the house instead of sitting watching X Factor and thinking they are all superb talents, when we all know they are talentless nobodies

Now we're talking real music. What about The Congos' first album? Magic stuff.

And anything by Augustus Pablo, East of the River Nile is my favourite.

The only trouble is that it's all on vinyl - how can I move that on to CDs and MP3s?

You need some appropriate software - I use Roxio Media Creator, which is fine for my needs but probably not the best (MYOB anyone!!) - and a lead from your Amp to the line in input on the PC - I think this comes with the Roxio package but you can get one from any Computer shop.

Roxio is certainly easy to use and takes you through it all step by step. It automatically puts gaps between the tracks but also includes some editing software if you need to split tracks.

It's a bit like it used to be when you put LPs onto cassette - you have to be around to pause the recording on the PC and turn the record over.

Once done you can choose to burn straight to CD or to bung it on your Hard Drive as a WAV or MP3

Marvellous

A good starting pooint for reggae in Brighton are the Roots Garden DJs www.rootsgarden.com
they do sessions at the Jazz Place every Tuesday but are involved in many of the bigger gigs too..

Yes, of course. Black Uhuru. Sponji Reggae. Bull in the Pen. Sun is Shining.
Burning Spear..and then of course the old tighten up stuff...

Reggae at Withdean? Well, I can get away with Marley, but I dunno about Sizzla...

Saw Black Uhuru at Wembley Stadium in about '81 or '82, and there was a monsoonal downpour in the middle of their set. They just launched into a rousing rendition of "Happiness" and we all instantly forgot the weather. Highlight of the day, and far outshining headliners the Rolling Stones, who were cack as I recall.

Reggae: music for the soul, and for the weatherman.

Attila - play Two Sevens Clash at the next home game please.

Black Uhuru - Sly and Robbie at their 'sticky bass' best (listen to 'Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?' from 1981).

I was fortunate enough to see Marley at The Centre in 1979/80 - the maestro.
