Sussex filled their boots at sweltering Southgate, posting a stumps score of 374-5 against Middlesex on day one of the Championship match in north London.

Chris Silverwood trapped both openers lbw to leave the visitors 15-2 early on, before Mike Yardy (97) and Murray Goodwin (69) began the run feast.

Michael Yardy hit 12 boundaries before falling three short of 100

Chris Adams was the man to go on. He finished on 101 not out as Matt Prior and Luke Wright also batted easily.

The flat wicket did not provide the turn Middlesex were looking for.

Caoch John Emburey fielded two specialist spinners but will have to wait until alter in the match for them to become more effective.

One of his slow bowlers, Jamie Dalrymple, who is being touted as a possible Test player, conceded 102 runs from his 23 overs while taking just one wicket - that of Prior who was bowled attempting a slog sweep.

Lovely spelling errors by the BBC.

You reckon they may out Middlesex in after 4th point is won?
5th point...

No, i reckon they may try and up the run rate though once 400 is reached, especially if these two are still at the crease and there's still Mushy to come who likes a slog.

I would bat on and aim for 500+ then bowl them out cheapy, enforce the follow on and then bowl them out again and win by an inning and a 100+ runs.

Simple really!!! Bowling bowling Mushy!

Why so many runs given away? :nono:

Arafat to get 10 and Mushy to get the other 10 will do me!
400 up (Adams 115 no)

I see that this is Adams 300th first class match - excellent effort
