Once it’s gone, why would it? Genuine question - SARS and MERs haven’t reappeared, have they?

Unless someone’s going to be stupid enough to eat infected bat from a fish market again?

Because some Chinese people are likely to interact with the rest of the world and possibly bring it back to China and then it would probably be back to square one. What do I know though.

No, that’s a fair comment. You’d hope by then we’d have the vaccine sorted.

So its 2 deaths in the last 48 hours from a couple of elderly people with underlying problems, who may have succumd shortly afterwards anyway.

Yes, I am petrified
You’re a bit thick aren’t you
Nope, no, he's quite right - this virus will kill an average of one person per day over the next couple of months, and then it'll go away. And only the elderly, who were about to die anyway. Definitely. More chance of dying from falling down the stairs etc.

China are now looking to reopen schools in formerly affected areas, and new cases dropped into double figures today (99). At current rate, they could well be coronavirus free in the foreseeable future.
If that happens, it'll be a miracle.

Quite. If what people were saying re: contagion levels were even close to true, we’d be looking at 100,000s of cases in China by now, whereas it’s actually disappearing there.
No, it's not failing to spread in China because contagion levels are low, it's failing to spread because everywhere is locked down. The concern is that once they reopen schools, factories etc, the virus will spread again.

Obviously I hope your optimism turns out to be reality.

Never been easier getting a table at one of the better Chinese restaurants in Chinatown. When we left at 9 am half the tables were empty - unheard of for a Saturday night.

Expected better of my fellow New Yorkers

Wow, New Yorkers must know how to party if they only usually leave the restaurant at 9am!

I’m with you. If it’s as infectious as everyone seems to say, why has nobody else in Brighton had it since the initial outbreak? There were several days between the super spreader returning to Hove and being isolated. He surely should have infected many others. In fact, if it’s as infectious as people say, why have there ‘only’ been 80,000 cases over the last three months in China, a country of 1.5bn?

The constant media hype around it has so much to answer for. I can't watch BBC news at the moment as it's just ridiculous - first 20 minutes or so of any broadcast repeating the same stories over and over again. Other than idiots stockpiling bog role and pasta it's good to see most of the country carrying on as normal - town was packed yesterday as per for a Saturday and so were the pubs and bars.

Italy has quarantined 16m people. Utterly ridiculous. The virus doesn’t actually do much harm even if it does infect 80% of a population.
This world needs to get a grip on itself.

The hospitals can no longer cope, which is why the government has taken the decision. I think it's a sensible one.

It’ll spread panic and put more strain on medical services. Useless anyway, the Italians couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery. It’s why they have the high rate of infection despite having the most restrictions in place.
