What a twat that Gordon Taylor is. However, that is the problem in this country. People resist acknowledging differences even though they can see it with their own eyes. I much prefer the Uruguayan approach.

Excellent post. Very good.

And yes Gordon Taylor is a twat. My girfriend used to work for an Actuarial firm that dealt with all the PFA's pensions. He used to call up and try to give them advice on what to invest in and where to put all the money etc. As if he somehow knew better than the firm they were paying thousands and thousands of pounds a year to do it for them. They all thought he was absolute knob jockey, and he was seen as some kind of comedy figure in their office.

Yes of course you are correct Brazil being Portuguese and Uruguay Spanish. However the meaning is the same all across South America. Its more of a Latin vs Anglo Saxon question.

8 matches is an absolute farce. He didnt mean any offence by what he said and as far as he knew there was nothing wrong in what he said. Obviously he should of know that what is said to Black people in his country and culture isnt acceptable and people who come from a different background may find what he says offensive. Is it worth an 8 match ban. NO

I'm just going by what has commonly been reported which is that Suarez admitted using certain words, so it was not one person's word against another. The FA then brought in a specialist QC to look into whether Suarez's explaination for using such words, and just as importantly the context in which they were used, could be construed as insulting and of a racial nature. The QC decided this was the case.

Yes, a precedent has been set, that if proven a player used insulting language of a racial nature then they will get a hefty ban and a fine. Surely this is a good thing? If it's just one person's word against anothers then I imagine that the case will be dropped due to lack of evidence. The difference here is that the charged admitted using language of a racial nature.

None of the reports refer to racism though?

"No-one is saying he's a racist - he's probably a very nice guy. He's alleged to have made abusive comments and that's the basis on which [the case] was considered."

To be fair it's not the 8 game ban that's most shocking, it's the fact they've found him guilty.

This. They've probably punished Suarez just to make sure Evra doesn't make this into an even bigger mess.

For all I know Evra is lying to get a reaction.

Big Cuddly Pandas.
