His career was fading, people were demonstrating against the Vietnam war and jumping on the peace bandwagon was a cynical career move.

So, what? That doesn't make it a good song? A good song can inspire people for the better, Imagine does that.

71.43% Yorkie...Im winning! :p :lolol:

I might be wrong here but most of the Lennon fan club seem to be the under 30's. Most of us older types can't stand the twat.

Oh dear. I'm with you, and I'm only 21. Am I already becoming an "older type"? :(

The only redeeming feature of Bohemian Rhapsody is from Waynes World. That makes me laugh.

Otherwise it was complete and utter tosh from start to end. And sometimes it never seemed to end ............

Imagine - great song, never one of the all-time greats though. Spoilt by the fact that you can't imagine Lennon actually taking the sentiment within the song seriously.

And I agree with NMH's point.

Unfortunately, I think the younger ones have been told on too many 'the greatest songs of all time...ever'-type shows that it is a great song. After they've heard it another 50 or so times (like the older ones of us have) they'll soon realise it is utter shite. You'll see.

at best "Imagine" is facile

Preachy bollocks that boils down to do it my way or you're worng (adopts Rik from young ones pointy finger 'yeah, you squares' pose)qv.

Sit Down James, One Way - Levellers. - "I wanna be so different, just like all my friends are", Rebellious teenagers wearing the same t-shirts

If the song was a lie, it's a wind-up to rank alongside a Noel Edmonds funny phone call.

If he really thought he was being sincere he was an idiot and people should have let him know that, given his lifestyle, he was a hypocrite and downright offensive.

If you believe "a working class hero is something to be" and at the same time you find that you're a bullshitting, smug, hypocritical, self-indulgent millionairre - you need to take a bloody good look in the mirror (and not just to chop out lines of cocaine)

John Lennon - "Peace" 1971
Frankie Goes To Holliwood - "Relax" 1982/3
Wham - whatever they had on their t-shirts

nothing to choose between them

Imagine and Lennon solo are both highly over rated . . . .Lennon McCartney where probably one of the best songwriting partnerships ever though

Poohemian Crapsody is ok, but again . . .leave it where it belongs . . . . .1975 !

Looks like I might be going against the grain here. I like Imagine AND Queen. Is that allowed ?

Imagine is a great song but no as good as Woman.

I have Lennon's greatest hits which TLO makes me even more of a w*nker I suppose.

Overplayed dirge. Lennon was best when he provided the biting lyrics to Paul (self important wanker) McCartney's melodys

  now you're talking. What about Marvin Gaye's album "What's goin' on?" - is that not just about the best record ever made? That had a proper message not just spouting utopian nonsense.

( though I would be hard pushed to name a Ringo Starr solo song
From the Album Ringo (1973) co wote with George Harrison

Photograph

Ev'ry time i see your face,
It reminds me of the places we used to go.
But all i got is a photograph
And i realise you're not coming back anymore.

I thought i'd make it the day you went away,
But i can't make it
Till you come home again to stay-yi-yay-yi-yay.

I can't get used to living here,
While my heart is broke, my tears i cried for you.
I want you here to have and hold,
As the years go by and we grow old and grey.

Now you're expecting me to live without you,
But that's not something that i'm looking forward to.

I can't get used to living here,
While my heart is broke, my tears i cried for you.
I want you here to have and hold,
As the years go by and we grow old and grey.

Ev'ry time i see your face,
It reminds me of the places we used to go.
But all i got is a photograph
And i realise you're not coming back anymore.

Ev'ry time i see your face,
It reminds me of the places we used to go.
But all i got is a photograph
And i realise you're not coming back anymore.

Ev'ry time i see your face,
It reminds me of the places we used to go.
But all i got is a photograph
And i realise you're not.

and when he writes totally on his own you can see why he needs others.

From Goodnight Vienna (1974)

Back Off Boogaloo"

Go!

Back off boogaloo,
I said, back off boogaloo,
I said, back off boogaloo, boo.

Back of boogaloo,
What d'yer think i'm gonna do?
I got a flash right from the start.

Wake up, meat head,
Don't pretend that you are dead,
Get yourself up off the cart.

Get yourself together now
And give me something tasty.
Ev'rything you try to do,
You know it sure sounds wasted.

Back off boogaloo,
I said, back off boogaloo.

You think you're a groove,
Standing there in your wallpaper shoes
And your socks that match your eyes.

Back off boogaloo,
I said, back off boogaloo,
Come on, back off boogaloo, boo.

Get yourself together now
And give me something tasty.
Ev'rything you try to do,
You know it sure sounds wasted.

Back off boogaloo,
What d'yer think i'm gonna do?
I got a flash right from the start.

Back off boogaloo,
I said, back off boogaloo,
Come on, back off boogaloo, boo.

Back off boogaloo,
I said, back off boogaloo,
Come on, back off boogaloo, boo.

Back, ba-ba-ba-back!

Back off boogaloo,
I said, back off boogaloo,
Come on, back off boogaloo, boo.

Back off boogaloo,
I said, back off boogaloo,
Come on, back off boogaloo, boo.

Back, back, ba-ba-back, come on!

Back off boogaloo,
I said, back off boogaloo,
Come on, back off boogaloo, boo.

Back off boogaloo,
I said, back off boogaloo,
Come on, back off boogaloo, boo.

I believe Ringo sang this load of tripe as well :p

I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade
He'd let us in, knows where we've been
In his octopus' garden in the shade

I'd ask my friends to come and see
An octopus' garden with me
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade.

We would be warm below the storm
In our little hideaway beneath the waves
Resting our head on the sea bed
In an octopus' garden near a cave

We would sing and dance around
because we know we can't be found
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade

We would shout and swim about
The coral that lies beneath the waves
(Lies beneath the ocean waves)
Oh what joy for every girl and boy
Knowing they're happy and they're safe
(Happy and they're safe)

We would be so happy you and me
No one there to tell us what to do
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden with you.
