Isn't it time to recognize Nigel Adkins as one of few new great English managers?

Top management talent has to grow somewhere - and it appears that Southampton have a gem in Adkins.

We have derided past rivals, such as Alan Pardew, and seen them go on to do well since.
Saints' record is not to be sniffed at really, they are running the division.

NO its not

Well, his tactics obviously RULED yesterday, and they are points clear at the top of the league - so who is the genius manager in The Championship?

Time to get generous in praise of the best in the biz, otherwise..... you have to concede that we get out-classed by village idiots ???

He's done well for sure, with a big physical team that knows how to pass and also knows how to play a ball through to the front men.

Right here, right now
He's good but certainly not great. Helped by a healthy amount of money available to him for players.

Gus has not achieved greatness yet, but is well on the way. With better luck with injuries, we could be up there at the sharp end of the division.

What has he won? Maybe if he wins the Championship next May, gets the Saints promoted and into the top half of the Prem for a couple of years, then you could start calling him a great manager but at the moment he is just another manager who has a runner up place to his name. That is being realistic not because he is at Southampton.

Blinded by jealousy, Gus has spent more than Adkins yet you thought Poyet was the best thing since sliced bread until he has been shown up as a one trick pony, Adkins has a plan A, B, C etc Gus doesn't and until he develops that he will never be a top manager

Where is the comparison with Gus. We are discussing Nigel Adkins on this thread not trying to pretend that Gus is greater or lesser.

Have you not read most the comments that admit that Adkins' is a good manager?? You can hardly call him great but signs show that he has potential to be great.

even if he is a prick at the best of times, he's a potential Fergie.

In 5 years time (whether with us or not) Gus will have achieved more as a manager than Adkins.
