BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | Barnsley | Barnsley ponder Hume legal action

Seems he went to hospital at the weekend with a skill fracture and internal bleeding that was life-threatening and now Barnsley are seeking legal action against Chris Morgan (who only got a yellow)

Has anyone seen it and did it deserve a red or was it just a strong challenge that ended horribly wrong?

If players are going to have legal action against them for every injury that they cause then this sport will be like Basketball!!

A "skill fracture"? Is that some sort of loss of form?:jester:

Are we back on Colin Hawkins again?

What is amazing is how a club like Barnsley managed to find £1.2million to sign him. Just shows what a tin pot club we are when people expected the next Pele after paying 1/4 of that for Murray

Is there really an Albion supporter left who does NOT think that Murray is potentially the best player we have signed since Zamora ?

The fact that we may not see that potential come to fruition is what proves that we are, unfortunately, tin pot

I can't believe that NSC hasn't made more of this. I can only assume that not many people have seen the video.

Morgan and Hume were about to challenge for a header, and a couple of seconds before the ball arrived, Morgan smashed his elbow into the side of Hume's head. It wasn't a case of just 'leading with his arm'. He swung his elbow at him 100% deliberately.

It was as pre-meditated as Thatcher's assault on Mendes. As bad as smashing a glass in somebody's face in a nighclub brawl. There SHOULD be legal action, and Morgan should be in a lot of trouble.

No doubt the quotes will flow from Sheff Utd, from former team-mates, etc about what a 'great pro', 'honest lad', 'not a malicious bone in his body', blah, blah, blah. Which is all horseshit, clearly, when you watch the video.

Nasty stuff.

f*** the 5 match bans, etc. It pure pre-meditated, ASSAULT, and should be treated as such in a court of law.

Its time football put a stop to shit like this.

If that 'challenge' had been on Glen Murray, this board would be in meltdown, and people would be calling for Morgan to be hung, drawn and quartered.

you look on You Tube and you can tell the Sheff Utd supporter comments from those of Football fans. He clearly assaults Hume and gets away with it. Why, because it was on a football pitch and the laws of the land that apply to the rest of us don't apply to footballers.

I wonder if the comments of the mindless Sheff Utd fans on that Youtube thread would be different, if Ian Hume had actually DIED.

The injury he suffered was LIFE-THREATENING. And that's not just tabloid 'life-threatening'. He suffered a fractured skull, and spent the night in intensive care. Even now he is in the high dependency unit, and not totally in the clear.

Deadly Duncan Ferguson got sent down for a headbutt on the pitch, incidents like Thatchers assualt on Mendes (haven't seen the Hume one yet) so also be treated as such.
