And it's just as well that the hi-res yellow jacket matches your eyes too, considering it comes with your job.

Why are you coming out with all this high flier nonsense? You're a poxy steward in a pisspot stadium and you earn a few quid above minimum wage. No amount of bluster is going to change the fact that I could fall on hard times and become something as socially unacceptable as a traffic warden and I'd still trump you jobwise. You're not even a chief steward, for Pete's sake.

It's not even as if an irascible old misanthrope like you could claim they do it for altruistic reasons. No-one would believe you.

Perhaps the announcement that HMS Endurance was going to be decommissioned and meant the Royal Navy wouldn't have an ice breaker in the fleet gave the wrong signals to the Argentinians ?
It makes me die the way the die hard left wingers on here have been angrily denouncing the "defence cuts" that they claim led to the falklands war because it suits their argument this time, trident renewal anyone ?

Agreed. That was typical of Foot though. He really belonged to another era even in the late 70s, early 80s. He would have been more at home, electioneering alongside Bertrand Russell and the liberal nonconformists 60 or 70 years earlier. A man who never got to grips with post-industrial politics.
I know its off topic and I have mentioned this before but I feel compelled to tell everyone that I have shagged michael foots granddaughter !

Old Shoreham Road :o(
What did you suffer then Under Thatcher that was so bad you now are able to live in Hove??

Well for a start, hove born & inbred, I live on the Old Shoreham Road, Brighton, not Hove
and, have done all my life, in the same house as my late parents and grandparents.

It was a railway house that was let out at a reasonable rent BUT then thatcher forced
the railways to sell all of their houses. Now, retired after 40 years of hard shift work, I
just about survive on a small pension, paying an extortionate rent to a private landlord.

Although it was Wales and the north and the midlands that suffered the brunt of thatchers
heartless treatment of the working class and manufacturing industries, a hell of a lot of
people in the south suffered very badly as well!

Last time I looked (last month) France is doing a hell of a lot better than the UK!
Of course it is under. Labour (mis)rule, the differnce is , the french government, whether left or right wing , puts france first, end of story, you certainly can't say the same about the over promoted polytechnic lecturers that we have in charge, in the middle of the greatest crisis since the thirties gordon brown grandly announced that he ( yes, him , not the british people ) was giving one billion pounds to fight extremism in pakistan, good job everything is just fine and f***ing dandy here then isn't it ?

Hmm, so you think that a person who has been running his own business for 25 years, had a couple of his own private yachts, worked in Hollyweird films..... etc, is a steward at Withdean.... for the MONEY??

Hahaha! You really are thicker than I had even considered possible!

When/if you ever retire mate, you stick to something safe - like ....gardening! Yes, that's it!
Meanwhile, here's a video (featuring someone just like you), to help you make the RIGHT decision;

Ah yes. That well known route to retirement for captains of industry - steward at Withdean. Strange that a CV as rich and varied of yours hasn't secured a chief steward role but hey man! You still get to wear a hi res jacket.

Living the dream.

Anyone wishing her dead is out of order, she had many faults and you either loved her or hated her but to wish her dead is wrong.
For the record I liked her and under her government you always new where you stood, unfortunatley that will never happen again with either Labour or Tory.

you knew where you stood alright normally in a dole queque or out on the street with your family and all your belongings

Very well put! Of course, the French saw what the Luftwaffe had done to their manufacturing industry, and repaired it. The Thatcher, on the other hand, saw the work the Luftwaffe had done on British manufacturing industry - and completed the job.

And given the chance she would have used the Luftwaffe on the miners and pole tax demonstrators

What Maggie was doing to this country at the time (she was brilliant in my opinion) had nothing to do with the Argies thinking they could take The Falklands.

The Falklands war started because of political unrest in Argentina - the president thought the only way to get the people on his side was to claim The Falklands.

Luckily we kicked their cheating arses.
It actually started when an Argie submarine hoisted an Argie flag on an old whaling station on South Gorgia

The Argies got the message when they were reportedly planning an invasion five years previously , hunter submarines and an aircraft carrier steaming down from Ascension to give back up to HMS Endurance put the shits up them.

Hmm...well, I must admit Labour's "Educashun, educashun, educashun" policy doesn't seem to , have been universally , successful.....................

Don't agree with your politics Bushy but one point you made there hits the nail exactly on the head when it comes to this country in comparison to France, whether we are run by Labour or the Tories.

The French Government puts France first, something that cannot be said of ours a lot of the time!
