I was waiting for that reply . . . you have to take it in contecxt, they never set out to win the Guardian beardy award for originality, artistic merit and obscurity . . . just to have a god time and make music. its all most other bands do.

Yeah good on them they achieved what they set out to do -and made quite a bit of money doing it- but it doesn't make for a good album.

Inflammable Material - Stiff Little Fingers.

Anything they did after that was bound to sound dull by comparison (just like with Leftism and anything else Leftfield did, as mentioned above).

Agreed it wasn't that Nobodies Heroes was crap, cause it wasn't. It's just that IM was the dog's bollards, so good infact I was listening to it this very morning.

The Clash first album, was head and shoulders above 'give 'em enough rope', but doesn't mean 'give 'em ...' was crap.

To be honest, he was rarely able to stand up for two songs in his prime 20 years ago either. Pogues gigs were always hit and miss affairs depending on which Shane turned up. They could be brilliant (Brixton Academy, Paddy's Day 1987), or they could be a cacophonous shambolic rabble (Hammersmith, Paddy's Day 1986).

It always amazes me every time I read that shane is still alive.

He's a phenomenon though. At the Brixton gig I went to last year whilst seeming pretty out of it as per usual he didn't miss a beat or an intro. Just seems to snap into autopilot for 90 minutes of classic Poguery.

well Its alright and better than most ( although thats patently not saying much)

I've no idea what Coldplayys first and second albums are like, but surely the seconds one worse than the first ?

I'd actually say the second one is far better than the first, but all things are relative. They're both shit.

Frankie Goes to Hollywood, cracking debut , shit follow up that was Liverpool.

Fatboy Slims second album Youve Come a Long Way Baby was superb, in reply to an earlier comment.

Must admit I never owned the first one but am officially the only person on the planet who liked Liverpool.

Although Noboddy Heroes could never have met the standard of 'Material, it was a great album.

In the same vein, Give 'em enough Rope by the Clash was never going to equal THE CLash.

I've jumped to the end here, but the Pistols only quality was 'Never Mind the Bollocks' when Matlock left they lost direction, purpose and the Act.
