GILLINGHAM memories

Consecutive games with IDENTICAL attendance. Nothing dodgy there then Mr Scally.....

Oh, and it was easier for me traveling from West Surrey. Much easier (and quicker) to get to.

Way out west
Car wash, he should have seen the pre-match warm up against Chelts a few weeks back, some stunning passing, shooting and saves on display, pity it didn't carry on for the whole 95 minutes of the game. (Unfortunately a lady in the crowd took a ball smack in the face, fortunately she looked to have recovered by kick-off, John Sullivan came to check that she was alright...and, other than planting a smacker on her cheek, I think he gave her an Albion training top)

5-1 defeat at hands of Millwall in the Auto Windcreens Shield on a Tuesday!

Went on my own as I 'fancied' it and nobody else did.

:thud:

I think the Millwar out-numbered us that night. Like you-I went on my own because I too thought we'd stuff 'em.:glare:

Those banners, obviously designed and printed by the club and supposed to look like the spontaneous work of fans. "Sheer HART attack" and "Jeff Kick-**** Minton" are the ones I recall (club's asterisks, not mine).

My wife fancying Ian Culverhouse.

Never quite remembering how to get to Blue Bell Hill.

Listening to Danny Baker on Talk Sport on the way home.

Stuff like that.

Probably. I'd be interested to see the attendance for that game because I remember it being VERY quiet.

I also remember my dad became rather adept at timing it JUST right on the way out so as to follow the police escort for all the buses all the way out of Gillingham and onto the motorway.

The second season at Gillingham was actually pretty good for a while. 4-1 v Rotherham, 3-1 v Brentford, 1-0 v Peterborough, 3-2 v Hartlepool - all very entertaining matches.

I remember the 4-1 Rotherham game. Barker went to the corner flag to celebrate after scoring and I can make out me and a few mates going nuts in front of him in Hortons Heros part 1 which I have on vhs!

I was living with a mate near Blackheath at the time and he owned an old Porsche 911 which still went like shit off the proverbial shovel, so it used to take us about 20 mins to get there. Was rarely worth even that effort though.

One thing I remember about Gillingham is that, at Christmas, every single house used to look like the Griswalds' - absolutely covered from ground to chimney top with lights. Really, really bad taste, garish and horribly over the top.

That reminds me! Being on a B&H bus after the last ever game there against Rochdale. We pulled away, and smacked straight into the bus in front. Windscreen shattered, glass everywhere, all the other buses full. We had to stay in that hell-hole another two hours until a replacement bus got to us, just as we thought it was over forever!

I was on that same bus. Very fitting I thought.

I used to sell Withdean Wager tickets in the main stand as a service to the club (unpaid of course)

2-2 draw with peterborough, one of the first games there on a tuesday night, and when it began CHUCKING it down, everyone belted for small roof on the rainham terrace

buying chicken nuggets every week from the burger van. that was flair

the 5-1 against millwall - in which we went 1-0 up

being absolutely SHIT on fireworks night against barnet, and spending most of the match watching the fireworks go off behind the opposite end

Coming home on one of the brighton double decker buses and it broke down. Was around bonfire night as fire works going off all around us as we were stuck on the hard shoulder for hours.

Oh god, I remember that

*shudder*
