So is this a foreign cinema thread or a foreign language cinema thread?

Foreign language:
The film you pick, must be principally in a different language

English language commercial cinema is mostly homogonised to the point where an English movie is much the same as a US one which is the same as an Irish one which is... you get the picture.

Run Lola Run.
Quality. Shame there were no gratuitous bap shots though.

Have too agree with the 1st reply to this threat.

(Bit of a result I now don't have 2 read 3 pages):D

The Spanish film Abre Los Ojos (Open Your Eyes) was profound, moving, brilliantly acted, and gripping.

Besides switching the action from Madrid to New York, the Amercian version was an exact shot-for-shot remake. But they put Tom Cruise in the lead role and called it Vanilla Sky and it managed to be none of the above (good soundtrack though).

Totally agree with what you've said above. I saw Vanilla first and liked the general idea, but the Spanish original is far, far better.

Others I like a lot are:
Battle Royale (haven't seen the second but everyone says it's shite)
Run Lola Run (got this as I thought it was a great idea for a film and it had the chick from the Bourne Identity).
Amelie (not bad, although fairly soppy)
Seven Samurai (Classic. Nuff said.)
Hero (enjoyed this the most out of the recent batch of films from the far east)
The Seventh Seal (Mad film - not 100% I got it all, but had to watch it for the legendary game of chess at the start with Death)
