Touche. Where is NSC's 'film critic' when the conversation moves off blockbusters?

To be fair, Cheltenham may be partly to blame for his silence. But when he gets back....oooh, it's gonna be "Oh yes Yank film Spielberg film it must be shit so says NSC which everyone knows is always right" etc etc.

My good friend Garth might even be grumpier than normal after losing money on gambling...ooh he's gonna be MADDER than MAD.

I THINK ET IS THE BEST FILM EVAH

Bertolucci's Novecento (1976), released in the UK as 1900 and in the US as Nineteen Hundred.

5 hours, 18 minutes in the Italian version. Cut to 4 hours, 5 minutes for the Americans and split into two parts.

I saw the uncut Italian version in Brighton, presumably as a Brighton Festival event, back in the seventies.

I saw "The Scent of the Green Papaya" at the Duke of York. Dr Buck took us for a school trip. It was dubbed from madarin to polish, with Vietnamese subtitlles. Four hours long!! That is the worst one I have seen

Diva - winning combination of French chic, quirky humour and opera all wrapped up as a great thriller.

Jean-Jacques Beineix went on to also make "Betty Blue", a very dark film but one of the mos erotic opening few minutes you'll see outside of a porn film.

You mean something happened after the opening scene? I didn't notice... (must have gone blind)

Le Femme Nikita - Superb Luc Besson thriller. Fell in love with Anne Parillaud. Something very erotic about seeing her in that little black dress and holding a gun.

Honourable mention for Cinema Paradiso which is tad nostalgic but fantastic nonetheless and L'Appartement.

Sounds a bit like the screening of the John Ford classic, How The West Was Won, that I once saw in Naples. Dubbed into French, with Italian subtitles.

Not seen many foreign language films that immediately spring to mind, did see "All about my mother" by Pedro Almodovar, very good film and pretty sad too. Also saw a Danish film many years ago and got by with the Dutch sub-titles (bear with me on this, it wasn't a porno flick), about young love and relationships. I haven't a clue what it was called, it was a beautifull film and easy enough for me to follow despite it being shot in a language I know nothing of and having to make do with reading subtitles in my second.

I was already to question your sanity when I read the above...

Then i saw this:

"My fave foreign films:

City of God, Amores Perros, Motorcycle Diaries, Battle Royale , Audition."

And realised that it's a game of opinions...

Battle Royale is the GREATEST film EVER.
