Re Pickford I think the commentators were very kind to him. 4 points/mistakes (sort of) I can recall instantly:
1) fumbling around on the ground after Mitrovics near post chance,
2) a punch when it was catchable
3) Kanes late headed clearance when it could have been claimed by Pickford, and 4) that “wonder save” when it was just a push over the bar

His kicking was “Ave it” type clearances but admittedly he had no one to aim at.

Clean sheet though!! Not the time to change.
3) is an interesting one....as he was airborne and flying to his right. Had Kane not been there is would have most likely sailed into the net.

Sorry but that is garbage.

TAA didn't have a scooby where to position himself. Gave the ball away in a terrible position. Second half no one took control. In the main I thought our midfield was awful, but when the ball is constantly flying over your head after yet another pointless cannon ball from the keeper, it wasn't surprising. We invited pressure from the 35th minute to the end of the game.

It was a typical Southgate team performance, something we've witnessed far too often at tournaments. It eventually screws us every time. How Southgate manages to negate our best attacking players is some feat. He has cost us winning a tournament with his brand of negative football. He has won duck all as a manager and that's how it will stay unfortunately.
Sorry but this is also absolute Garbage. He gave the ball away once. TAA in the first half was the perfect player to play against a low block. To say our midfield was awful is completely ignoring that the two best performers were Rice and Bellingham. If Kane scores and we win 2-0 then not a soul is calling that Garbage. People have a target for Southgate and always have, if Potter becomes manager, he has also won duck all. People act like the entitled top 6 fans they claim to dislike so much with England and it always makes me laugh. I predicted 1-0 Serbia, FGS Jude Bellingham, without wanting to sound like an oracle, this is exactly how I thought Serbia would play and how England would be forced to play. I would genuinely like to see how other people would have managed that game. I don't think any other top manager does it massively any other way.

Glad you predicted it. I predict Southgate's England will fail against any of the top teams again. And Rice I thought was not very good, all opinions I know but. TAA gave the ball away which could have cost a goal. Dunk gave the ball away and got slaughtered for it.

If you're happy with how it went that's fine with me. Southgate has failed to tactically inspire a very good group of players for 4 tournaments I haven't got any reason to believe this one will be different. You're right about Potter also. I haven't and will not say he should be the next manager.

This statement is rubbish. People are merely stating observations and opinions from a game. At most people are stating that things could and should be better, that is not showing entitlement.

For what its worth I don't think Dunk should have got slaughtered for it.

On the Potter point, I just can't see anyone else being up for the job, especially with the media pressure. You've said Southgate hasn't inspired the team for 4 tournaments, those 4 tournaments were 4th, Final, Quarter Final, making him the second most successful England manager of all time, with arguably a weaker/similar squad at times than lets say 2006. In recent history, other than France or Argentina no other team has been that successful over that period of time. Like I said there is plenty to criticise him for (sitting back being the main one) but last night was not that time.

Saying things should be better is entitlement. Could is not, last night was absolutely fine, if we play like that in the next 2 games, then be critical, but we won't, and even then 2021 euros, we played pretty poorly in the group, and then beat Germany. People need to actually support the team instead of being overtly critical about every minor thing, the main reason I've seen thus far for TAA being Crap, is he gave the ball away once.

Sorry, but I reckon TAA is terrible in centre mid. He's barely played there and was all over the place as a result.

I know Shaw is injured but we started three right backs last night. Just because we have them doesn't mean we have to use them.

In the first 35 minutes what did he do wrong, other than the completely unforgivable giving the ball away once that seems to have made him the worst player in football history?

did you know TAA played as a midfielder all his life and only at Liverpool did Klopp put him at RB. He is actually a midfielder

Considering he was in there as a set piece specialist his free kicks were poor, but it's more his positioning. He got hooked on 69 mins for a proper midfielder because only Rice was doing what he should have been out of the two of them. I'd start Gallagher. Mainoo or Wharton ahead of Trent, despite two of them stinking of the Palace.

Still in Brighton
My hope is that Bellingham ignores all Southgate's instructions and takes over on the pitch, bossing it like the first 25 mins, and drags us to the winning podium. If we have any more refs like last night though it's more likely than someone will take him out of the tournament with a heavy foul.

All I noticed of Foden was some "arm waving" frustration. Sadly, it seems obvious with Bellingham running it Foden is just a gooseberry getting in the way.

I understand we've been fairly successful under Gareth Southgate but you are taking those final positions out of context. We had fairly easy runs in those previous three tournaments but we were defeated once we faced a top side (Croatia, Italy, and France). Many worry, including myself, that this pattern may occur in this tournament - despite having the capability to defeat these sides - partly because of Southgate.

The last time we looked a decent side against quality opposition was 4 games ago against Belgium.

There Mainoo was played at CDM. Since then he's played excellently for club and was MOM in the cup final against Rhodri and de Bruyne.

Now maybe Southgate has a cunning plan up his sleeve to play him there again once we reach the knockouts but I'm not holding my breath.

And if you're going to do that, don't you play like that now to bed the midfield in?

Southgate always has a few players that he seems to show blind loyalty to in these tournaments and it ultimately costs us. I hope TAA isn't going to one of those.

yep , he grew up as a CM so positionally he is fine in theory. In fact he prob knows it better than at RB which he had to learn.

I'd rather him not in there but he is a midfielder , all be it not tried and tested in Englands system
