With all the Lampard v Gerrard stuff on here I would just like to point out that bar any injuries/bans the starting 11 for our opening game will be a 4-4-2 formation exactly as follows.-

Paul Robinson (gk)
Gary Neville (rb)
John Terry (cb)
Rio Ferdinand (cb)
Ashley Cole (lb)
David Beckham (rm) + captain
Steven Gerrard (cm)
Frank Lampard (cm)
Joe Cole (lm)
Wayne Rooney (cf)
Michael Owen (cf)

Possibly the only doubt will be Rio Ferdinand v Sol Cambell v Ledley King.

I thankyou!

that would be my team except id have carrick in for lampard and stewart downing in for j.cole....

would provide much better balance to the side...

Everywhere
Joe Cole has to be in there without a shadow of a doubt, probably the form midfielder in the premiership at the moment, and Downing hasn't produced since his injuries. I don't know where dropping Lampard came from either.???

i admit downing is an arguable one....

but as for lamps he clearly doesn't work well with gerrard as a partnership....

and u can't drop gerrard who is the best all-round midfielder in the world....

Downing for Cole ???

I would pair Ledley King & John Terry at the back, if a defensive midfielder is required I would Shunt Gerrard to the right where he plays for Liverpool, drop beckham & then play Carrick.

Lampard HAS to play

As does Joe Cole...he was best player last week by a mile...how can you even consider starting Downing when he has no experience at International level...i doubt he will even be in the squad !!

I'm guessing you have heard his name, heard he is left footed and want to be someone who likes to be the first person to suggest an up and coming player

I disagree with that SO strongly..... Gerrard isn't even the best all round midfielder in this country

Irrespective of the claims of messrs Downing, Carrick, King et al, I think we all know that, barring injuries, that will be the team.

To be fair, Joe Cole is playing really well at the moment and the only doubt would appear to be the use of the 'holding midfielder'.

Sven is incredibly loyal to his players (rightly or wrongly) so unless Lampard is caught with his cock in Nancy's mouth, he will play.

It's all starting to get a bit exiting now

not at all....

in my view he is the best left winger we have....

joe cole is not a left winger...

if anything id start joe cole and gerrard in the middle together to include joe cole....

as good as form as he is in hes not a left winger...simple

So where does he play for Chelsea....oh yeah...out wide left or right !!!!

And Downing is not international class so to play him would be foolish

i like to see a left winger bomb down the wing hit the byline and cross the ball left footed naturally...

exactly apart from the defending part....

gerrard is the best all round midfielder in the work for all his attributes....

i'd like suggestions on a better all-round player...

purely because he is expected to sit for lampard....

the partnership together is not working so clearly one of them has to be dropped....

and u cannot drop steven gerrard IMO....
