***Durham v Sussex, 3-6 September, Chester-le-Street, LVCC Div 1***

Shirty

Daring to Zlatan
From a largely second-string XI.

Regular first-teamers in bold.

Chris Nash (C)
Luke Wells
Michael Yardy

Joe Gatting
Rory Hamilton-Brown
Ben Brown (W)

Will Beer
James Anyon
Lewis Hatchett
Steven Magoffin
Harry Finch

But 5 of the Top 6 are proper first XI players, and its the batting that has let us down again.

With a few exceptions the top 4 or 5 have been hit and miss all season, and it's been the middle to lower order that have dug us out of a hole on quite a few ocassions. Sadly, with the thin squad, we don't have the quality in the middle order or tail to wag.

At least consistently poor in this match!

Unless the weather plays a part I dont think we will win again this season.

Very poor.

Partly down to our success, Robbo runs a small team on a limited budget, when we do well we cannot afford to lose four senior players to international call up (five if you include Prior).

Still we need the second string to take their chances.

Lets hope we put up a better fight in the return leg this month.

Joyce has been excellent, and Nash, Yardy and Wells are all averaging 40ish which is decent. The issues been having no middle-order apart from Wright and Machan (neither of whom has played much) .
Gatting's been poor again, RHB doesn't seem to realise how lucky he is that he still gets a game and Brown's failed to improve. Even when Prior was he was poor

Agreed. Gone are the days when we were continually 50/4 ish.

Just a poor few days at the office, few weeks back I still thought there was a shot at us challenging for the championship but not to be. Disappointing to only amass 220 odd runs for 20 wickets though, that's appalling.

Is that sarcasm?

Well, I was referring to this season in general, where Nash / Wells have been a decent partnership - not stellar, but decent.

This match we've been pants though.

I heard a 2 year old in the crowd was so incensed at the poor performance she walked home this morning.

High up on the South Downs.
Too many cross bat, loose shots at Chester le Street lead to a dismal failure. tbh the Sussex batting line up is not very strong and RHB has not progressed as a player.
