I ordered mine the day of the announcement, I think by the next day the delivery dates were out a couple of weeks.

makes sense, it took me a couple of days to decide if i really wanted one.

DIE-hard Apple fans who spent the night sleeping on the STREETS — have finally got their hands on the new iPad.
Dedicated Zohaib Ali, 21, was first in line outside the flagship Apple store on London's Regent Street after queuing for an incredible FIVE DAYS.
He had been there with his pal Ali Tarighi, 18, a whopping 141 hours since Saturday to make sure he was the first to get hold of the new gadget.
Zohaib, from Uxbridge, West London, said: "I'm so happy, I'm really tired but it was worth it.
"The iPad is the best product of the year and there won't be any more until 2013.
"I am happy to queue. I love Apple products."
