Nice to see all the players from both sides singing their respective national anthems and showing plenty of pride in so doing.

They put our lot to utter shame in that department.

The above is a Frutos quote from the France v Romania prediction thread yesterday.

I'm assuming the our means England ?

Well, I'm English, proud of it, but refuse to sing GOD SAVE OUR QUEEN. And I always hit the mute button the minute it comes on the box.

Why ?...... well, personally I regard royalty as parasites and, as a believer, I've no intention of asking GOD to save any Queen, let alone our gracious one.

So, whatever country you're from : Why do you choose to sing, or not to sing, your national anthem ?

Yes i sing the national anthem. I am not a believer in any kind of god. I do think that as i served Queen and country in the forces the royal family does have a part to play in our culture.

Saying that the royal family does need a radical media makeover

I love our country and our Queen and so should anyone who lives in our country. Half-wits may have a problem with the monarchy due to some ridiculous socialist misconception that 'they live off our taxes' etc. They clearely need to f-uck right off and live somewhere else because our royal family elevates our great nation and should make everyone proud.

Just be thankful you're not Greek. Their national anthem has 158 verses

I'm a little bit concerned about the fourth verse, which talks about "crushing the Scots" in a war in which some of my ancestors may have fought (on the Scottish side).

Apart from that, and the fact it's a total DIRGEFEST, it's fine.

Oh no, hang on, I meant "it's shit".

We are asking for the wellbeing of the reigning monarch. What it wrong with that??

I am making the point that every other "national anthem" relates to a country and its people....ours relates to a person who by (a) accident of birth and (b) their ancesters were handy with a huge sword, happens to be our head of state ( but was never actually voted such)

Its not up for debate, its a long held belief.

So shut it steward

Billy Connolly used to reckon the English national anthem should be the theme tune to 'The Archers'

So if you're not a believer in "any kind of god", why would you sing God Save Our Queen ?

I take it you wouldn't be in favour of any of the hymns then, like : Jerusalem, Swing Low Sweet Chariot or Abide With Me ?

Whether they are bloodline or not is neither here nor there. Why shouldn't we be different and sing about a leader most other countries in the world are jealous of??

Who cares if it's a long held belief? I can debate anything

Make me shut up at Butters dinner shortarse :lolol::lolol::lolol::lolol:

P.S. the mrs said Laura can have her wine

At the foot of the downs
at a cost of 37 million pounds to the tax payer per year surely the royalist idiots could find someone cheaper to bring the annual sleazy embarrassment and shame to our country !!!

I personally could do without our 'noble' queen
