at a cost of 37 million pounds to the tax payer per year surely the royalist idiots could find someone cheaper to bring the annual sleazy embarrassment and shame to our country !!!

I personally could do without our 'noble' queen

The fact they bring about 40 times that into the economy from tourists who come to the country ??

ALL the royal family pay tax now as well

I love our country and our Queen and so should anyone who lives in our country. Half-wits may have a problem with the monarchy due to some ridiculous socialist misconception that 'they live off our taxes' etc. They clearly need to f*** right off and live somewhere else because our royal family elevates our great nation and should make everyone proud.

How the f*** can you come out with that rubbish? Our present Royal Family are from German stock & even changed their name to Windsor to maintain their privileged position! I'm as English/British as you are - so if I choose not to blindly sing our shitty anthem, that's up to me.

My biggest problem with our anthem is that it is slow, boring and droney. Compare that to the French and German anthems that are a lot more lively and upbeat and we really are put to shame.

Whether they are bloodline or not is neither here nor there. Why shouldn't we be different and sing about a leader most other countries in the world are jealous of??

Who cares if it's a long held belief? I can debate anything

Just be thankful you're not Greek. Their national anthem has 158 verses

A 158 verses eh ?....Hmmmmm.....now let me think....that's just a dozen more in number than the amount of really entertaining square/back passes their defence made tonight, if my calculations are correct of course ? ;)

that bit about anyone who lives in 'our' country should love 'our' queen is absolute bollocks.

am not english, just living here temporarily and have never felt the need to sing 'your' anthem, nor profess my love for your queen and this 'great' nation. i know the chorus bit is god save our gracious queen but that is probably the only line i know. am very much a republican though.

i know both 'our' anthems by heart, one is a little love ditty that is not especially rousing and the other is marginally more rousing.

i wonder about the footballers though - i mean i couldn't care less if they sing their anthem or not, english or otherwise. i just wonder why they don't. not knowing the words, not 'believing' in it all, just can't be arsed, daydreaming about post match food. i wonder how many people know it from start to finish. where is it taught? do they learn it in schools? (not in my kids) in egypt it was the first and last thing we did in school every day.

got no problem with the idea of a nobility imposed by force of arms as in william the frog or some henry who killed his first cousin or some geezer who shut his kid relatives in a tower. they earned the right
but this mob invited in from germany have no legitiate right to rule and i have a major problem with "royals" who dont know about the health hazard asssociated with more than 3 units a day

and f***ing chaz who hasn't seen a battlefield yet attends the cenotaph with more medals on his chest than IDI AMIN whilst my own father was denied even a poxy campaign medal for 6 years of war ROYAL naval service including escort duties on the convoys to russia

Obviously there is some effect on tourism, you only have to look at changing of the guard, trooping of the colour etc. but they do a sterling job when it comes to charitable functions, fronting the country etc.

I really do not see the problem with them. Do we really want a republic where someone like Tony Blair or Gordon Brown are answerable to no one?

Maybe maybe not?

No-one knows and would you risk pulling down Windsor castle, BUCKINGHAM palace etc to find out?

no, I'd leave the buildings that at the end of the day is what the tourists come to see, I just don't see why the civil list has to cost the country so much when they are more than capable of supporting themselves !!!

got a point.

how many tourists go to REPUBLICAN USA to see a king or queen?

and how many BRITISH go to france either

tourists coming to england because of the queen you are having a laugh.

it is a bit like deluded fools who believe the world wants to learn to speak english.

they dont, they want to learn how to speak american. because that is the language of hollywood MTV and pop music.the true imperative to learn the language
