Completely OTT stewarding outside family stand

BobbySmith

I didnt take you seriously at first about the demo.

But i have just learnt from a fellow fan that there young daughter had her plastic windmill from McDonalds confiscated by stewards when she tried to "gain entry" into the family stand today.

Is this true? It just gets better and better (if farce is your kind of thing).

Obviously the windmill is a subtle dig at the lack of investment in sustainable natural energy such as wind power. It's not the steward's fault. They have to abide by the official FA policy on ironic protests about nuclear energy.

Rules is rules.

The windmill could have been kept if it was doused in uranium 238 beforehand.

PnfE

It was explained to the steward that it was NOT a protest about nucleur energy.

But as quick as anything he came back with..............." its the wrong colour for the family stand" and snatched it off her.

The windmill was bright yellow and I think he thought she might have been Hartlepool?

No idea what you are looking for, apart from the usual "stewards are like coppers, must show what a REBEL with a CAUSE I am" blithering?
.........

Wow. For someone who has a public facing role, you seem to be very poorly equipped to deal with criticism and your response to genuine questions (such as why these east stand home fans couldn't be identified at the turnstile) is one of acerbic indignation.

Why try to paint me as yet another steward-hater when it's clear to me and other posters that certainly isn't my agenda. You're quite an angry man, aren't you.

More likely the steward thought it looked like a daffodil and thought she might have been Welsh :)

Nope. Not angry - I've been posting in similar style and mood since logging onto North Stand Chat some 10 years ago. No-one could be angry for ten years could they?
I'm not working, so my responses to these kinds of thread aren't necessarily politely and patiently worded as would be my responses while working.
Just as this website allows you to be as repugnant and strongly worded, and pointed in remarks and insinuations, so no-one has to be 'particularly nice and patient' to you either (though some might, if they want to).

As far as I can tell, you've been fairly accusatory about stewards "plucking excuses" when they are doing their job as required! (and generously giving you their own time to respond to your questions, ahem) Now you clearly want to duck and dive about your line of questioning and your own responses, while drawing a line under mine.
No problem though, I've not dodged away from taking you to task either - but don't bother trying to paint my attitude as way off the mark from yours just when it suits you, eh?

I don't think you've answered my questions at all. So, for the third time of asking, if there were a COUPLE of home fans with east stand tickets, why could the people manning the turnstiles not deal with this? Why did it take THREE extra stewards to deal with a couple of home fans? What time did these fans turn up because my mate arrived late and was met by the same 3 stewards as me when I arrived at 2.30 pm? Wouldn't have thought it necessary to keep these stewards there after these home fan east standers had been moved.

Why, when the club is aware before the game of how many people will attend and where they will sit was there such an obvious over staffing to a quite frankly miniscule risk of a home fan getting spat on or abused. Would it not have made sense to clear the tier nearest the east stand and just move those fans occupying those seats nearer to T and U block and thus creating a huger buffer zone?

Are you aware of these FA rules quoted by Steward 433 on how many stewards must there be in certain shared stands?

Are you aware of anti-nuclear protesters having disrupted football matches before?

Do you think it was a prudent precaution to take a yellow windmill from a girl before she entered the family stand and are you happy with the explanation about it being the wrong colour?

and I think I can believe, in your case, that it is possible to be angry for 10 years. Maybe a lot, lot longer.

Just in from taking Mrs C7 to dinner and i see the battle rages on, well PNFE
here it is,
To get in the family stand a child has to be accompanied by an appropriate adult,we heard you were attending and wanted to make sure you bought an adult with you.As it happens you bought 2 responsible adults with you.

Ouch. My sides have split. So which post of mine is childish, like?

Please do tell so that one day I can be proper grown up and mature like you and NMH.

To be honest with you i don't see any reason why this was taken away.

Is that a response to my question about where I was being childish? You see, I'm now confused. Are you now implying that I might be being reasonable in asking about these things or is it some kind of subtle dig that has gone right over my head? Will you take the lead and respond to some of the other questions? Perhaps you're aware of FA stewarding rules?

Time for me to head to bed, I think.

Again - think man.
A home supporter enters a turnstile, and they are needing relocation.
Let them enter the turnstile, to an operator who is checking tickets/who then has to back them out of that turnstile and into an advancing line of people, or explain their new situation after they've entered the ground (at possibly a part of the ground they shouldn't be, so they'll have to be escorted to another area). They are now quite possibly confused or disorientated, and holding a ticket stub for a seat they're no longer going to be seated in.
Or.......

Well, you seem like a well reasoned and thoughtful person who has taken SO much time and thought and concern about this HUGE affair, perhaps you should consider becoming a steward....in fact a senior steward who instructs and organizes......

......at Carlisle.

One point before I do go. Fazz hit the nail on the head when he mentioned "common sense". This is the very thing I'm trying to get at. We're a pretty friendly bunch in the family stand. Hardly any bother at all and hardly the barrack room lawyers that a certain steward/NSC poster would have us labelled.

The club could have saved a bit of money today by applying some common sense and certain stewards (the windmill one in particular) would be held in higher regards if they showed a bit of discretion and thought. Does me wanting these things really make me a rebel or shit-stirrer?

It could easily have been done today. One steward waiting by the turnstile checking bags (there really was that few family standers today that one person could have done the job) and another assisting but also primed to direct the fan on what to do. It merely takes the turnstile operator to say "sorry, I can't let you into your normal seat. Can you see that steward standing by that steward checking bags on what to do. This spare steward can then direct the home fan to sit in the family stand. Disorientated? The ground ain't that big and there weren't hordes of queues either.

Home fans are probably aware that the family stand is located next to the east stand already and can follow signs. Failing that the spare steward could direct them to the stewards in the family stand who might possibly have found a spare seat for these 2 home fans amongst the 1000 or so spare seats available. It really is not difficult. It's you that seems to think it's such a big deal that you employ so many stewards to deal with these "problems".

Fancy a crack at answering the rest of my questions? It'll give me something to read when I'm having my breakfast tomorrow.
