[Albion] Can we talk about Sanchez ?

This isn’t an ideal situation for any top player wanting to play football rather than gather splinters for the sake of it but for a GK it’s worse as coaches rarely sub GKs off the bench unless for injury.

Sanchez has been a great stopper for us and served us well for several years in the PL2 and in 2021/22 as our first team no.1, with 11 clean sheets in 37 league appearances, a record high in the Premier League for an Albion keeper:

Until that is with the continuing development under RDZ which increasingly required a GK who was happier in possession and more adept at playing with his feet - that’s not Sanchez’s fault (other than the few costly clangers he’s made) nor certainly not the manager’s but it’s just a case that he ceased to be RDZs first choice for our style of play. For a young first choice no1 (in GK years) stopper, to almost overnight, finding himself ‘relegated’ to the bench and in the humiliating position of watching someone else take his place week in and week out, including watching his replacement concede 5 goals at Everton - well that cant be easy, so we need to cut him some slack, shirley. He hasn’t stormed off or had his agent tweeting rumour deals with other clubs to hold TB at ransom, nor done a sulky runner to Spain but has stated (according to RDZ) that he would rather not travel having been told he would not be playing. GKs are the only position are unlikely to be subbed during a match (bar injury) since the position hardly effects tactics and the role is generally not energy intensive enough to require a rest inside 90mins so I can understand why Sanchez requested to be left out of the named squad given the way things have be going. Yes, it’s a bit sulky. Yes he’s getting 50 grand a week but that’s to play football which he’s not getting to do.

I agree, that it is likely he will move on over the summer (for a decent fee) and Sanchez not wanting to be named in the squad knowing there’s next to zero chance of him playing is not ideal but we don’t know what’s going on behind closed doors or in closed training or what Sanchez’s mental state is so it’s unfair to judge him so harshly imo.
Sorry but much of that is apologist nonsense. A prime example being the statement that Steele conceded 5 goals! He was clearly at fault for one! And costly clangers are precisely that and cost him his place.

He needed to knuckle down and act professionally whilst taking his big wage packet. In training he could perhaps show RDZ an improvement in his footwork and distribution under pressure.

Sanchez is world class. Good keeper but really?

Sanchez is world class. He needs first team football. I'd wish him well wherever he goes (apart from SE25 obviously).
Nah. Good keeper, but nah.

How can a professional footballer down tools like this at the business end of the season?
He is a professional footballer, so he should behave like one.
Seems he is an unprofessional footballer.

Right pees me off these players who throw a strop when dropped if this is the case? Big Bob dropped a massive clanger at Palace and was supported by De Z as well as the fans there on the day. He obviously isn't happy being on the bench but surely you support your colleagues! No?
A colleague that has rebuilt their career through hard work and professionalism, when the time came they were overlooked for the then no.3. But still they got their head down and worked hard. Sanchez doesn't have to look very far for what a model pro looks like.

A real shame to see a good talent go so wrong so quickly
What's gone wrong? He's had a difficult spell in the team and finds himself out of it. He can recover, no problem. De Gea's first season at Man Utd he struggled to convince Sir Ferige that he was a top quality keeper, but he eventually did. Bobby needs to get his head down, work on his distribution and show RDZ he has balls.

What's gone wrong is that RDZ is clearly black and white..you're with him or you're not.

Well his saves ratio went down the pan, he made some glaring mistakes most notably at Selhurst, he got dropped, and has now thrown his toys out of the pram and refused to play, almost certainly ending his career at the club.

Apart from that it's all fine.

And that’s the problem , it’s how you react. The Man Utd league game was very telling, only player who didn’t celebrate, didn’t congratulate anyone down the tunnel etc. not a team player seemingly

Huge disrespect to Tony who's the one paying his wages. If he'd waited til the summer I'm sure everyone would have understood that he wants to be playing football week in, week out. But to down tools before the season is done?

And I think Bob can get back on the bus.

He deserved to be dropped after Palace but he was excellent at Wembley and if he gives his head a wobble then he can return.

And that’s the problem , it’s how you react. The Man Utd league game was very telling, only player who didn’t celebrate, didn’t congratulate anyone down the tunnel etc. not a team player seemingly
That was very, very poor. But Murray didn't clap the fans once. One lapse in judgement doesn't mean the end of a career with a club.

Is there proof this has happened?

The highlight for anyone who had any doubt why RDZ made this call: “in fewer than half as many minutes, Steele has recorded double the number of shot-creating actions.”

As others have said he’s no doubt been well supported by Steele who was the model pro. He makes some big mistakes, gets dropped and rather than reciprocate he throws his toys out.

He’s good but not great. If we can get circa £30m bite their hand off. As a HGP that’s pure profit that can be better invested elsewhere.
