Brighton lose bank funding for Falmer, or something similar

The Hamas Nimby that is WS obviously doesn't realise that outside Westdene we are in a recession. Whilst the club had been promised the funding for Falmer, the money is not the Albion's until it is in the bank. The funds are no longer coming through. Hence others have put up the funds. Bigger organisations than BHA have gone to the wall of late due to lack of funding ets i.e. Woolworths, MFI etc etc.

Southend I believe have had to delay their ground as their financial backers have pulled out. And they don't have the Blooms either.

Errm, Woolies was more down to bad management and losing sight of what kind of store they were.

Southend's new stadium would be on a much larger scale to ours as they are also lookning into building massive retail outlets, etc, on the same site.

This is a ridiculous thread.

With the greatest respect to the original poster - you're talking utter bollocks.

Why do people constantly come on here and say "oh I heard from a bloke in the pub ...blah blah blah"...If I believed every story I've heard from a "bloke in the pub", then by now, the Albion would have:

- Gone bust
- Be taken over by a Russian Oligarch
- Bought back Zamora
- Sold Glen Murray
- Appointed Barry Lloyd as Adams' replacement
- Gone down in a season because they couldn't afford to stay up
- Signed Kaka
- Signed Kanchelskis
- Opened a ground at Waterhall
- Opened a ground at Beeding Cement Works

etc,etc,etc.

The reason why the average "bloke in the pub" tells people these stories is because no other fucker will talk to him because he always pissed!

Dont forget we wouldnt of had snow last week :)

I have no idea whether the original post is correct or not, but as I have said on here for quite some time it was obvious that the bank funding would be harder to obtain now. The club did not have in it place in October as confirmed by Martin Perry, and would have struggled since. As it is said that the Blooms (or someone else) was putting up £20million towards the stadium it would not be surprising if they have "pledged" to double this in the event of the bank funding not coming through. More likely though they will put in the £20 million and hope bank funding will come albeit later than planned. Either way with the Blooms or A.N.Other's support the stadium will be built and personally I would be happier if it was a wealthy individual funding it than any of the banks for which no one has any confidence that they will start lending anytime soon.

I wish my original quote was wrong - but it isn't.
If the Albion make a statement as to the current funding position then you will see that I am right. It is of course not necessarily bad or for that matter good thing that the funding is coming from within the club than the banks? Of course if the club does not make a statement and they are not at liberty to do so - then when the accounts are drawn up for the first year at Falmer, the funding position will be clearer.

Your original quote would hold more water if you hadn't made the fanciful statement about the FA preventing construction. You also could have been believed more if you hadn't used such a sensationlist title - maybe Blooms to fund Falmer ???

Last night I went to a fancy function and learnt from a member of the Bloom Falmer that the Albion have lost FALMER as the funding from the Banks has not materialised.

However, the Bloom family have put a debenture of £40 million with the FA of their own money into their account. This allows the club to proceed with the stadium.

The Bloom family are actively seeking finance for the ground, otherwise they will own it with their own funds!

We're well aware that funding has not materialised because we've only just got planning permission for the stadium, and that the period for comment or challenge has not expired. Hardly earth-shattering news.

Thankfully the FA have absolutely nothing to do with the planning, funding and construction of the stadium, so I'll put this down to the strong probability of you not properly paying attention to what you were being told.

The club would need to divulge to the Council at what stage the funding is. The Council wouldn't give the go ahead if all the I's weren't dotted and T's crossed.

As far as planning permission is concerned, that is simply not the case.

ANYONE can apply for planning permission, even if they have no control over a site.

If I wanted to submit a planning application to convert the County Ground in Hove into the permanent headquarters of a circus, I could do so - even though the ground is in the private ownership of Sussex County Cricket Club and I have no current interest in the circus industry.

The City Council would consider the application on its planning merits and, subject to it complying with all relevant planning policies, they would grant me planning permission. Armed with this, I could then start looking for a bank and a circus who might be interested. At the planning permission stage, the Council wouldn't give a toss whether the project was viable or even possible. The planning permission would be valid for five years and would lapse if the development hadn't started by then.

Only if the Council had an interest in the land (eg as owner) would they be interested in the viability of the project. They wouldn't let me near their site if I couldn't prove that I had financial backing for the scheme. Even then, they would have the right to turn me down in favour of someone with a better scheme. And they could turn me down simply because they didn't want a circus on their land. They would treat this aspect of the scheme in a way that would be entirely independent of the planning process.

If I then decided that the people wanted more than a mere circus - maybe pornographic ice spectaculars - the Council might have another role to play, in their capacity as a Licensing Authority - but that is yet another issue that is independent of the planning process.

What the f*** is wrong with these freaks. It's probably the same people on the argus site who come on here and spout their bullshit.
Chimneys must have a mental age of about 8. The council must be satisfied that the club has a business case otherwise they wouldn't have given the club posession of the site, what don't you understand about that?

6 actually!

Just for the record I have been a season ticket holder for many years and have been to Posh, Leicester and Shrewsbury away this season. Just in case you are inferring I'm a closet anti!

All I am suggesting, is that until the club tells us the funding facility is fully secure, then there must be some doubt on delivery of Falmer on time in this Godforsaken financial world we now live in.

I'm merely tempering my joy until Martin finally utters those magical words.

Insults really arent helpful!:p

What on earth does this actually mean??!!

A debenture is a guarantee to repay a loan taken out by a business etc but its not backed by property or any other saleable asset but purely on the likely future earning power of the principal guarantor.

I GUARANTEE that if the Blooms have provided this facility it is NOT via their own personal finances but via some sort of limited company - their own money will be ring-fenced (and rightly so I may add!!)
