a VERY dirty 'challenge', although it does look slightly better from the final two replays of that youtube video.

Still reckless, deserves at least 5 match ban for that. If that wasn't on a football pitch he'd be arrested

It looks slightly better? Slightly better than what?

He clearly looks at the bloke coming, gets nowhere near the ball and them forearm smashses the guy in the face. They need to throw the book at him.

Well, in the last two replays it looks as if he's just put his arm up and run into the bloke - doesn't show much intent., which is why it looks slightly better i think.

It's mearnly a trick of the camera though, as from the first angles you can clearly see a forearm smash into Mendes, which is very deliberate.

Scum

As I said on the Michael Brown thread at the weekend, it is time for the PFA to show some bollocks. Like every other union they are so quick to defend their members, even when their actions deserve no defence.

In these two cases, surely Giggs and Mendes are PFA members too. What is the union doing to protect their careers, and those of other victims of these idiots.

They will tell you that they have schemes to assist those whose careers are prematurely ended... financial help, re-training, yada, yada, yada..which is all very worthy, but how about actually trying to cut the incidences of this kind off thing altogether.

Evil, spiteful thugs like Brown and Thatcher deserve no place in a professional sport. If the FA cannot revoke the nonsense double-jeapardy rule, then the PFA need to set up a system where they petition the players club to suspend him on zero wage for a sensible period. It would need a panel of ex-players [proper hard ones, who know the difference between a crunching tackle and a spiteful assault] to adjudicate. The guilty would whine, but at least they would't have the PFA to run to.

The problem for the FA is if they remove the double jeapardy rule is they may have to do some work.

So, his 'tackle' was deemed as serious as, say, kicking the ball away or taking your shirt off when you score.

As has been said before, the courts should be dealing with things like this. Didn't Duncan Ferguson get sent down north of the border for something that happened in a match?

And then look at Thatcher's scummy gigner face afterwards. He's screaming at the Portsmouth player. Doesn't look like he's aplogising, does it? The FA need to study that game to see if there was any sort of revenge motive.

No wonder the game's going down the shitter, two games in and disillusionment is already setting in.

At the foot of the downs
Pompey's draw at Manchester City was marred by Thatcher's ugly challenge on Mendes, which saw the Portuguese ace stretchered off and also suffer a seizure.

poor lad ..

Spot on. Just watched it again, that horrible piece of shit Thatcher doesn't look at the ball and clearly follows through with the elbow. Unbeliveably shocking challenge.

Is there not some kind of ruling where the FA can come out and say they felt the referee dealt with the incident at the time and are not pursuing it because he showed a yellow card as "punishment"?

Shocking challenge.

And it's a sad state of affairs when Christiano Ronaldo is roundly booed every time he touches the ball because he winked at the Portugese bench at the WC, yet we all know that the likes of Brown & Thatcher will be able to step onto the pitch away from home without being targeted by the opposing crowd until they actually maime one of the opposing players in that game. :nono:

This cannot be classed as a tackle, that is disgraceful at no point are his eyes on the ball, just pure thuggish-ness.

Mr Pearce is obviously watching a different reply to the rest of the football world!

Apparently Greater Manchester OB are looking into it. Mendes had a fit and needed oxygen on the way to hospital.

It's such bollocks, FIFA are saying that the referee's decision must be final.

Yet if the referee doesnt book a player for taking their shirt off to celebrate...then sepp and his cronies will give them hell.

wankers...
