I'm still waiting for the some evidence of a link between "lefties" and Neo-Labour to be made.

Most genuine socialists/social democrats I know are against ID cards and against scapegoating minorities for the failures of the system.

Still, it's always worth inventing other people's viewpoints and then attacking them for things they don't believe and have never defended, is n't?

There isn't a link thats why. New labour and the new tree hugging tories are the same. We almost live in a one party state. peeople just don't see it yet.

Blair once made a comment about wanting UK politics to be more like Democrats and Republicans in the USA rather than class based european parties. The sad thing is that he seems to have got his wish to a large degree.

bureaucratic loving middle classes?

Possibly, although I think a self-interested political class and a poisonous gutter press probably don't help.

I have one if it was free! That is I got it at 16 or 18 instead of a Nat Insurance card and number.

Or it replaced the Passport:clap:

Otherwise, the next time I do that bank job, I am leaving it at home............

Yes, exactly.

The press simply BREEDS cyncism, if it's good news, it isn't reported.

But as Ken once said, "if it bleeds, it leads"

To get back to the original posting about Rawnsley's article, I agree with the article that this is a pivotal election for Gordon Brown.

However, I'd prefer for the winning candidate to get the gig because he/she enthused the constituents with better policies and a brighter future, rather than the Tories get elected because Gordy isn't up to the job.

Like him or not, Tony Blair and his New Labour party WERE offering a very different set of policies back in 1997 that DID win over the electorate. Cameron seems to be being PRESENTED with an election win. It is not in the country's interest for Brown to keep cocking up because we need the Oppostion to EARN every seat gained, not win by default.

New Labour = lefties...................I don't think so
Socialists always vote Labour ................I don't think so again.
and as for the Crewe by-election it matter not a jot who wins Labour will still be in.

Thats the whole point. You need a decent opposition to keep the current party in check (whoever that may be) and at the moment it just aint happening that way.

.

How would you analyse London then?

I mean, was Ken not up to the job or do you reckon Boris enthused constituents?

I'm not a socialist, it was more to get a reaction but In all seriousness, what are the problems you experienced as in not mixing well etc? I can see how it may be difficult living in an area that has lots of differant races, culture clashes etc. Was it that you felt alienated and uncomfortable or were there real problems?
well here goes ! i have lived in both south and east london (i originate from south london) in south london it is mainly the west indian community or it was when i was there but this is also increasingly being added to by african immigrants/asylum seekers , my concerns here are the crime/gang culture that PREDOMINATES amongst young (early teens to mid twenties) afro caribbean men, they cannot keep blaming everybody except their f***ing selves for their problems, also racism is just as predominant amongst afro caribbeans of all ages against white people as it is amongst us , just that we are in a position where we are a majority so it does not affect us as much on a national scale, but try going o school as a white person in south london and tell me how " persecuted "the blacks are ,do you really think that if the boot was on the other foot they would not look after their own ? i lived next door to an angolan asylum seeker and her numerous children before she moved in the house was refurbished top to bottom for her , next door to her lived a pensioner who had lived in the house all her life , guess what hers was like ? was any help forthcoming ? none except from her neighbours , im sorry but for me that is just insanity , i want to scream at the powers that be LOOK AFTER OUR f***ing OWN !!!! im sorry i really dont wish any ill on any of these africans but like it or not this country would be better off without them and before you start screaming about people doing the shitty jobs in the nhs i would have root and branch reform of the welfare system so that it went to people who needed it not the large proportion of the long term unemployed/sick that are basically sponging , i would make them do the shitty jobs or lose their benefit, lets not kid ourselves here, we know they exist i grew up with loads of them, as for east london it is the bangladeshi muslim community 99% of which ( and i mean 99%) want nothing more than to create their own little bangladesh in east london , i know of many many of them who have been here for 30 yrs or more and still dont speak english , on many many occassions a shitty nappy would land on our front room window which had been thrown from the flat above ( it was a tilt open one), i witnessed peoples grandparents being brought over here at the age of 75 on many occasions and immediatelydrawing an old age pension to which they had contributed nothing!! again absolute f***ing madness, and again i have witnessed families straight off the plane walking straight in to brand new council accomodation and let me tell you that breeds resentment among the white working class, well that is just a small part mate , over to you

BigC,

I don't think Ken enthused the voters, I think Boris got the job because enough voters to make a difference thought it would be funny to vote for a buffoon as Mayor.

Do Londoners REALLY care that much about who is Mayor? They SHOULD do, but do they? The fact that the Tories have let Jeffrey Archer, Shagger Norris and Bumbling Boris stand suggests that they either don't take it that seriously themselves OR they want a puppet in charge if they ever got into power.

Bushy - one word, mate. PARAGRAPHS.

It is always a bit of both:

For many people, especially being fed by news the Evening Standard, Ken had lost his way, was arrogant and oversaw a corrupt administration.

Boris, also targeted the outer suburbs, first convinced them that they were in London, then to vote and then for him.

It was a great campaign.

Ken lost this (London) election with poor tactics, too reliant on the core labour/ poor areas and a general feeling that he just didn't care.

For me, as being a part of the campaign, it all seemed to change around January. He seemed far more happy before that, but around the end of January he just seemed to lose his desire for it, I think it came back again towards the end, but around February/March he seemed really out of sorts in my opinion.`

I understand that it breeds resentment, totally. What would your solution be? Bearing in mind that we can't just "send them back".

with the west indians i agree their here and part of our society, the africans for me are a different matter, with them im afraid i would send them back much as i realise africa has problems i am sick of paying for them ,and indeed being blamed for them, with a country such as sierra leone we left it with a free press , a first rate civil service and system of government and a healthy economy, how can we be possibly be blamed for its subsequent decline? tribalism is the curse of africa as has been demonstrated by mugabe in zimbabwe, i think a lot f white people are very very naive about the africans and the contenent in general, with the bangladeshis as well they would go back , they do not have any affiliation with us what so ever as i said in my previous post all 99% of them want is their own little bangladesh over here but with our social and health benefits
