Are Meet-Up's bad for NSC?

The meet ups are pretty much the same lot of people who would be going out after a game anyway.

Well put Easy. Familiarity doesn't breed contempt, but it does heighten people's curiosity. I don't agree with everything I see posted, and if I feel strongly about views I will make my opinion known.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to attend a meet-up yet. Living near Reading has meant that circumstances have conspired against me every time so far.

But I have managed to meet some of the posters (Lush, BAG, Jonnyboy, etc.) and they all seem thoroughly nice people, plus we all have that uniting common denominator: supporting the best team in the land!

So I say long live the meet-ups, and who knows I might even make the next one!

Oh, and in case you haven't gone up the wooden hill yet Terrace Dandy...

NOT TRUE!!! I would say half the people at the last one were NOT people who usually socialise together. Well the ones I spoke to weren't.

Yeah the most recent was strange though because I knew half the people. Then you automatically chat and almost forget the newbies. Anyway, it was good to meet Desert Orchid, Striker, Tokyo etc at the recent one. :)

I might not be in the Albion end but I'll sure be in the Swindon end. Good old Joanne.

I don't see what the fuss is about personally.

I LOVE reading details of when and where people I've never met are moving to, what they did at 01.14am last Sunday morning and so on. It's GREAT.

And it's VITAL that I know EXACTLY when total strangers have received tickets for matches.

I think the meet-ups are a great idea and I think twice a year is about right for frequency. There's no doubt that people have made real friendships and it's good to see an ever-increasing crowd of mates getting together before and at games. But it's not so much "We are NSC" as it is "Brighton 'till I Die" and that's as it should be. NSC is an excellent place but there's a whole world out there - and a whole world of Albion fans to meet who aren't on here. I've seen all the clique stuff before in my Bracknellzeebub days and there will always be the same accusations as soon as people get into "meet the geek" situations. But I've always reckoned there's a huge difference between meeting people you'd like to get to know anyway because of the things you have in common and the alternative. Which is to willingly embrace some sort of inner sanctum, bobble-hatted Brotherhood of the Freemasonry variety. And I simply haven't got the regalia for that type of caper...

i find it kind of funny that there i know what a whole group of people in brighton look like. yet i have never met them. i really enjoy printing out the pictures and sticking them to my wall in my 'secret room'. i am currently building an altar and am hoping to get some personal possessions maybe some locks of hair, that kind of thing to add to that.

keep it up!

I haven't attended any 'official' meet-up or voted in any awards. This is through choice as they are just not my cup of tea. I have however helped out where I can; sponsored games, Centenary dinner, first REMF match, back end of a pantomime horse etc, and I have met a few people down the Nelson once or twice.

This is the only point where I disagree with Safeway, there NEVER was a clique on NSC, just people who met up through it. Surprise surprise that's still the case today only the people have changed. Also in the 'old days' there was no PM facility and sometimes it was easier to stick a message on NSC, especially if you'd lost the email addresses. Yes sometimes threads mean nothing to people except those posting, I've done a couple of those recently when I discovered I went to school with On The Left Wing and used to play cricket with Phaedrus. Since then we've communicated about things that only concern us by PM rather than posting general threads and getting accused of starting a 'Lancing Clique'.

So if you enjoy the meet-ups and awards - great. PLEASE don't stop having them just because you think people might not approve! All I would say is that sometimes there are threads that should be PMs/Emails, but then we'd miss out on the glories such as Downloaded Penguin's "I'm not sad I've got a girlfriend!" thread.

I don't mind the idea of NSC meet ups but some of the cliquey bullshit posts that feature AFTER the meet ups get right on my tits.

The one detraction of meetups is that - as been said - once you've met people off this site, you do become more concerned about offending them which I suppose is a bit of a shame. Personally I prefer the idea of meeting up with subsets of the NSC community. i.e. those in S London or those who play footy in Regents Park etc

The good thing about the meet ups is that instead of just thinking people are twats in real life you can know that they are.

so you just like offending people on here? :lolol:
Despite working in the same building as you for the same company as you, I never actually met you - which is great as I can now feel comfortable abusing you and threatening to kick your head in via a PM.

You sad old cow. (P.S Check your inbox) ;)
