Our screens are f***ing brilliant!

The Kraft Group announced they've started installing two new HD Daktronics LED video scoreboards at Gillette Stadium. The removal of the old video boards has begun and the installation of the new boards is scheduled to be completed by mid-August. The new scoreboards will feature high-definition video displays which provide more instant replays and an array of graphics, including live statistical updates and out-of-town scores.

The south end zone will feature the largest of the two video displays within a 41.5-foot by 164-foot scoreboard and feature approximately 6,800 square feet of digital real estate. The north end zone scoreboard will be approximately 45-feet high by 100-feet wide, with the digital LED technology totaling nearly 4,500 square feet. Together, the new end zone displays will provide more than five times the screen size compared to the two old 27-by-48-foot screens and will feature greater resolution.

Daktronics has equipment in 29 of 31 NFL venues and 10 of the 16 MLS venues.

No goal music or PA cheerleading please but I like the idea of screen 'flashes' to encourage the whole ground to sing together.

I wonder how much for each screen? And do you think Tony ordered them from Dixons?

I'd imagine Sony, Panasonic, Hitachi or likewise, are helping allay the cost - as long as their name is in big letters somewhere on it - and the monitors in the concession areas are theirs too while people are queing for burgers watching first half highlights or a live feed from the match, so they won't miss anything.
I expect people will whinge about the occasional ads that might get put up, that helps to finance the stadium and/or new players so we can remain one of the few solvent clubs that aren't sapped by crippling debts that will get bought by dodgy yanks or 'Thai businessmen'.

They are made by Daktronics, a company the specialise in large displays.

The most exciting thing about this of course is the no expenses spared.

I'll miss the crappy digital clock at Withdean, and the even crappier Stiles Harold Williams analogue one in the corner of the south stand at the Goldstone.

I fear change :(

FC Dallas' Cowboys Stadium, used for the Superbowl last night:

This one had to be raised up shortly after the stadium opened, as an opposition kicker punted the ball a bit higher than he intended to and it hit the giant screen and pinged straight back down again.

Brilliant, Townsend Thoresen.
We should put an ad on the south stand for nostalgia's sake

After a visiting striker shot well wide of the south goal, a mate of mine raised a chuckle when he innocently shouted "He's hit the 'f' in 'Ferries'". OK, so you had to be there....
