Why the hell can't one of our batsman just take the time to play himself in? Is it too much to ask?

You can bat yourself out of a test match on Day 1, but you rarely bowl yourself out of it.

This match had such an air of inevitability about it. I just hope Freddie will be fit for The Oval.

OK, on the subject of The Oval I'll be controversial and say - purely as a horses for course, one-off, 'cometh the hour cometh the man' selection - Bopara OUT and Ramprakash IN.

Wouldn't that be the ULTIMATE fairytale - a bloke who's test career was largely disappointing give a one-off chance to put all that failure behind him by guiding England to glory?

Well we ARE into the tail now and WHAT a f***ing shambles of a morning!

Full marks to the Aussies for bowling well, though.

To be honest, once I heard last night that Freddie was f***ed for this test I knew it would be 1-1 going to The Oval. That collapse in the Windies exposed how brittle our batting is, and 1 ton to their 6 in this series confirms that.

Hopefully Matt Prior will show a bit of Sussex bulldog spirit.

The way we're batting the tail starts with Strauss

T20 cricket will destroy proper cricket

Its like asking a marathon runner to try the 800 metres this week followed by a quick 100 metres next week and then back to the marathon

When Bopara is at number 3 you KNOW there's a batting disaster just waiting to happen.

The problem was with the selection. You do not need five specialist bowlers at Headingly. Stuart Broad is not a number 7 in test match cricket. We did not need to win the game and try and force a result, so we should have played an extra batsman at 6, Prior at 7, and 4 bowlers. I think the only reason the selectors did not go this way was because they would have to of dropped Broad because he has not got any wickets and he seems to be the Golden One who cannot be dropped.

We've got into this mess by swinging the bat around ridiculously all morning, but once another wicket falls we may as well do that just to try and add some runs.

As ludicrous as it sounds, if we got 150 I wouldn't COMPLETELY rule us out, just because it's Headingley and we've got the bowlers to SWING them out.

On the other hand, it'll probably stop swinging and they'll rack up 400.

Weather forecast is bright sunshine all day tomorrow and Sunday. Fully expect Australia to post 620 and bowl us out on Monday

Interestingly bright sunshine in Leeds now, yet Clark is gettng the ball to swing beautifully.

That said, Prior is batting as anybody could expect I think.
