I just got back from Hurghada last Friday - week on a liveaboard - a bit chilly out at sea due to the wind and it's a 7mm semi-dry in the water. Still nice and hot on the land during the day though, can sit out sunbathing in shorts etc. but need jeans and a sweater in the evening.
i'd go for mini-dv every time. i've got tapes going back 5 or 6 years that are still fine. the theory is that tape deteriorates over time but so long as you don't keep playing it backwards and forwards it should be fine.
