Wow, I had never considered the concept of time before- thanks for enlightening me.

The Polish national team coach said in some interview that they don't really give a shit about the "Nations League" (World Cup is the biggie) and see it as an opportunity to take a look at players who aren't playing much etc. He probably just returned to fitness and this will be some sort of pre-season for him. Better he's getting his first minutes playing with Poland in some joke competition, rather than in the PL.

It’ll be interesting if he plays that deep lying play maker or in the sort of advanced position Potter and RDZ mostly had him in.

For if Hürzeler can get Moder scoring and assisting, the achievement would be up there with RDZ’s ability to make Solly March the same player in real matches as he always was in training. Top level.

Agree.

I’ve never felt we’ve seen the best of Moder. Maybe it’s just his style, but I’ve always thought he has more gears to move into.

Solly was a key player already... this is a totally different story.

Moder has shown very little at this level. Energy, intent, work rate - all of that is there. But he's often been used in attacking roles indeed, and has shown he doesn't have the technical ability to play there.

73% pass completition, yet only three assists, just little above his xA so not like people have wasted a lot of chances he created. If you can't create chances, you can't lose the ball one fourth of the time you try to pass it.

52 shots, 0 goals - actually the exact same as Billy Gilmour, the difference being that Moder has been shooting from ten meters closer to goal on average. Imo he showed in Poland he is a good finisher, but in the PL you don't have the time to get your feeting right etc. unless you're good enough technically, and he is not.

Maybe, maybe he could make in a more defensive role, but I think Potter and RDZ didn't play him there because he is sometimes untidy with the ball.
I hope he'll prove to be the next... someone, but more likely he doesn't really have a future in a top half PL team.

I have always thought Moder was a classy midfielder and his injury came just as he was getting into his stride, his injury was bad not helped by a number of set backs, managers then come and go some having never actually having the opportunity to work with him

Apologies if fixtures but appears that by his own admission Moder missed our first few games of the season after seemingly knowingly playing through injury during the Euros. The irony of course is that horrible injury was the turning point in our fortunes. Moder left the team for over a year and a space opened up for Caicedo. We went on an incredible run of form for the next 14 months or so. Then when Moder started regularly reappearing in the team, our fortunes turned back the other way again!

Lots of other variables at play of course, but I think it probably does say something about Moder’s impact on the team.

Its fine to be rusty and have a long way to top form, it happens. He's had a couple of rough years.

Its not ok to be lazy. Its not acceptable. Hinshelwood is defending as if our midfielders are actually doing the very basics of defending at any professional level of football. Unfortunately the midfielder closest to him CBA about this 2v1 situation until its way, way too late. He appears to think "Hmm, maybe I'm supposed to look like I'm doing something" and jogs out to to "try" and stop the pass.

Unfortunately at this point our CBs have noticed Moder CBA about the situation and are assuming he'll pick up Guedes instead, but since he just woke up and had not been arsed to look around him, he leaves both opponents to do whatever the f*** they want.

I'm sure Moder is a good lad and decent player, but its not acceptable. Provided with a golden opportunity to show something, he just throws it away... through lazyness.

Very surprised if he makes a single minute in the PL.

I know we have totally different views of Moder AND Ferguson regarding yesterdays game. But, I honestly thought Moder did one of his best 35 -40 minutes in stripes yesterday (that doesn't say much will some of you say ... so, now you don't have to do it!). In the second half though, both legs and head were gone, lack of first team football I guess. Same goes for Fergie, worked really hard first 40 min, pressing, defending and were close to get that goal a couple of times (I think FH liked what he saw there). No legs in the second half for him. So, guess we disagree, I think they both were better than I hoped for. It is what it is! And it's usually quite hard to shine when there's a bunch of other more or less rusty players around you.

I guess part of rustiness is this kind of situational awareness

But I agree that Moder is, I think, 8th choice midfielder once Gomez arrives, (and i'm not sure that many other teams in the PL have an 8th choice CM as good as Moder) a move in January seems sensible

EDIT : I should add. Given the uncontrolled nature of last nights performance, I think you could find unflattering clips of all our players out there. The structure clearly looked disorganised. We're using this tournament to get players match fit it seems

It worked against this Wolves B (Championship) team but its not going to work at the level of competition we usually play against.

Now, this technical aspect of the game could partially be excused by rustyness, but losing focus while the RB is facing a 1v2 for nearly ten seconds. Its not ok, its lazy. If Zinedine Zidane does it against a Poya Asbaghi coached Barnsley-side, its one thing, but Jakub Moder is in no position to dream about his half time-Soda in the 44th minute.

Others are also lazy in this situation, but this situation is barely a thing if Moder runs to help Jack keep the two Wolves-players from working it into the central areas.

There’s a reason we tried to sell him to Leicester and there’s a reason Leicester was the level he was wanted by. When Baleba, Ayari, Weiffer O’Riley and Milner are fit he’s six choice. Seventh if Gomez comes in.

Yes, a neat and tidy player who is technically very good but doesn't ever really hurt the opposition. He may come good and I reckon FH wants to find out if he will after injury, but he's in last chance saloon by my reckoning. If he isn't looking better than average by Christmas, I wouldn't mind betting he'll be sold to a relegation struggler in the January window.

Totally fair to point out Moder should have been much tighter to the lad who made the assist for the first goal. He could have stopped the cross and forced him wide. But at least he was getting back

But the ball was played to an unmarked player in the middle. That was just as bad.

But this is the start of the move. All 4 from the forward line the wrong side. High press looking ineffective and very easy to play through

He'd be an outstanding player at Champ level or for a decent Belgian, Dutch, Scottish team etc. Bit more time, more space, could imagine him doing an O'Reilly etc. Simply isn't at our level sadly.

Moder looked a good player pre injury. He'll need a few months of decent game time before that can be decided.

He's a very different profile to the other midfield options. Tall, quick and physical. Useful for certain opposition. Opponents like Villa.

94 games is a hell of a lot of football to miss. He might never fully recover. But I'd give him the season before deciding to sell next summer.
