I have happy memories of a place called Tucker Burger at Seven Dials, around 1978. Places like this and Uncle Sams were a beacon of hope in the 70s when grey and gristly beefburgers fished out of hot water smothered with onions and plonked in a tasteless bap were the norm.

Without any doubt it has to go to a cafe near the bottom of Ditchling Rise along Preston Road.
I've never quite experienced anything like it.
It was about a year ago and it was run by an old couple. Not sure if they're still there or not. Think of the couple in Little Britain and the Pirate Memory Game and you've got them.
I asked for a cheeseburger to take away.
Whilst waiting for it to be cooked, the old lady came out of the kitchen and said she had to check the order.
"Are you sure it's a cheeseburger ?"
"Yes, that's what the gentleman asked for"
"A cheeseburger eh? Gosh"
2 minutes later she returns.
"It says here it's a take-away !"
"Yes dear, the gentleman would like it as a take-away"
"Good heavens. A cheeseburger to take-away ! Well I never did".

After a good 15 minute wait I was handed the bag.
I got in my car and opened it.
I kid you not. It was 2 of those tiny little Birds Eye burgers that are full of onion sitting side by side rather than on top of eachother, inside 2 slices of plain white bread and an inch thick strip of cheddar (un-melted) on top of the burgers.
It was quite something.

I had a 1/4 cheeseburger at Burger King Arnhem at midnight. Thought it tasted a bit cold & raw but gave it the benefit of doubt as I was in europe and thought this is how they eat them here. Spent the next 3 days in hotel room making full use of toilet facilities. Never had a BK or Mcd's since.
