Was it against Macclesfield? I was heading to that game and was on the platform at Euston when the guard told everyone that the game was off.

I ended up going to Selhurst to watch Palace v Scunny with a Scunny mate

It was either Macclesfield or Mansfield. We got the news from the radio, pulled off the motorway at the next exit and also went to Palace v Scunny which I believe Palace won 2-1? It was an FA Cup match I think.

I erroneously switched on TalkSport a minute ago and they had a ‘Liverpool’ fan on who sounded like a Surrey banker (not rhyming slang). Whatever negggst, Hu...a Palace fan phoning in from the Wirral?

It was definitely Macclesfield, it was in January and there were a lot of frozen pitches oop north.

Yeah, Palace won 2-1 - I think Scunny took the lead but couldn't hold it.

So, there were at least two Brighton fans at Selhurst that day

Without doubt Cardiff away (at their old shithole of a stadium).

Station at the ground was closed and so a long hike through the most rundown place I've ever been (at around that time many places in London had newspapers over the windows instead of curtains but in Cardiff they had newspapers instead of windows). OB let the Cardiff fans into the away enclosure at half-time. Lost 1-0 and then had to walk back to main train station with the taffies asking the time so when anybody with non welsh accent replied trouble ensued.

Hate Cardiff; never been back. Only time I was ever really scared at a game.

Cardiff away 77ish won 0-1 Ian mellor, no segregation so celebrating the goal was a bad decision, got a few punches and kicks in the ground that day.

Travelled with my dad and a coach of Albion fans fully expecting a win. I was miserable the rest of the trip.

Sometimes getting a thrashing can become almost amusing but the match I have hated more than most others was spurs away at Wembley.

It was a cold and icy night and I was still struggling with a bad ankle from a sports injury. I was in with the spurs fans. But they were the best bits. Aurier scores with a cross and we simply parked the bus. It was miserable. I still remember us having a chance to break down the wing near the dug out and as soon as he got to the halfway line Kayal just booted it down the channel and didn’t even chase it and just fell back into shape. It made me shudder. It made me realise we were not even trying to do anything creative. It was miserable. I got stuck from all the people near me and I had no defence. It was horrible.

Took forever to get home too.

Huddersfield away, 7-1, Smith in goal and Adam El-Abd playing his worse game ever. I went to the the local pub when the 7th went in and it was pissing with rain, not a good night. Think that is the only time I have ever left before the final whistle in life, irrespective of early trains, strictly or whatever other excuses some of our fans have.

One of my first away games and the first time I experienced real hostility, it was a frightening atmosphere. IIRC someone had a drum and it boomed incessantly.

I do remember Joe Kinnear had an absolute mare that day - he got skinned every time a Millwall player came near him

Palace 5-0, doesn't get worse (although I still lord it over my dad and brother as I managed to get out ahead of the lock-in).

For sheer misery, I remember us losing heavily to Colchester on a weekday night in League 3 in the dark old days, early on in the season (1997ish?). It all became very clear just how awful it was going to be....

Barnet cup game

Obviously it has to be our friends up in Croydon for the 5-0 and all that went on after the game, but another away day that lives in the memories either late 80's or early 90's is the cup game away at Barnet where I can't even remember the result but I can definitely remember getting absolutely soaked in the uncovered away end singing about our Nigerian international we had on loan called Iffy someone.... there was a covered seating area holding around 100 fans but by the second half most of the soked Albion fans were squeezed into by passing seat tickets through the fences. Never been so soaked in all my life.

I don't go to many aways (about 30 and mainly very recent past) but of those I have been to then Fulham was the worst. Got soaked walking from the coach to the pub, got dried, got soaked walking to the ground then got soaked walking to the coach. In between we let a 2-0 lead disappear to a very poor side.

That's mine as well, I got isolated from my mates on the way back to the special train and surrounded by Cardiff fans, ended up with a massive black eye. kept my scarf though. I was 14 years old FFS.

For all that everybody says about the Palace 5-0, can I add that up to the referee blowing the whistle for the game to start I had a fabulous time. 6,000 of us making a racket, taking over the pubs of Thornton Heath, the two dads and their offspring in front of me at the turnstiles who were told they couldn’t bring their porno mags in. It was fabulous. Ruined by a game of football.

Running late and thrashing it up to Halifax in the driving rain, surprised at being able to park so close to the ground, only to be told the match had been cancelled. I think the replay was also cancelled but didn't bother with that one.

My daughter and I probably waved at you! It seemed we were the only two Albion fans in Halifax that day. Had they taken the rugby posts out when you arrived?
