A young Colin W*nker out thought Lloyd with a superior formation and tactics in the first half, game over.

What a shame after all those away wins, Wilkin's regular season ending freekick and it broke up a quality squad (imho) with many of my favourite players.

Then it took hours for our coach to get out of the tedious Wembley car park.

Gutted, it took me years to put this one to bed.

Funny how memories are formed...I took my son and daughter to that match, with a friend who's since died, and his son now a middle aged man himself. I think of that day as a good one, despite the score.
Wasp amazed how small the seats were for a real wedge of cash, though.

PS: All because it was our first trip to Wembley together.

The away leg at the old den, was definitely the most shit scary away game Ive ever been to, walking through some dusty no mans land to the ground, council estates all around, stones and bricks being lobbed,

The old Den was a hairy place all right, always glad to get away in one piece.

Coincidence alert; Mrs Gwylan comes from one of those council estates

That was a grim day, was in the 1st row behind the goal at ground level. Could barely make out was happening most of the time. Terrible view and result and someone nicked my programme too !

Ha, there were not many of us there that day, cold and that man mountain of a man Kevin Francis scored if I remember correctly, and we were dreadful.

Was Kilo in goal for Stockport that day?

Drove back via Watford to watch them play, the one and only time I’ve been a neutral.

Wasn’t the best day out to be fair.

19th August 1972. Blackpool.
Four of us made a very early start, all scarfed up. We were sixteen years' old. £ 5 spent on a return train ticket. What with the £ 3 I gave my mum for housekeeping, that left me with just £ 1 to last the rest of the week. A not unattractive tangerine-clad, ginger-haired girl about our age boarded the train a few stops before Blackpool. It was obvious that we were Brighton supporters. She started chatting to us and was fascinated by our accents. She advised that we got off of the train a stop before Blackpool to avoid their welcoming committee. That we did, with her - who seemed to take quite a shine to me, linking me arm to arm. Quite a nice little ego trip for me. It went downhill from then.
I bid a coy farewell to my temporary love before we paid our entrance fee and decided it would be good fun to go right in the middle of "their" end. No segregation in those times. That would be like four opposing supporters in the Goldstone days, standing right in the middle of the North Stand. We did a bit of singing, much to the amusement of the Blackpool supporters.
All was going well. We went one-nil up and went barmy. Then, so did their lot. We were chased out of the stand, and the only means of escape was to go down a small set of steps going under the ground, pay two and a half pence at a turnstile mysteriously situated at the bottom, and up the steps to virtual safety. A small queue of a few Brighton fans were trying to get down the steps, and the poor lad at the back of the queue whose head was at ground level, got a bit of a kicking.
We managed to watch the game from the side of the ground whilst being visually targeted and feeling very, very scared. Things were going in our favour though. At half-time, we were 3-1 down! By now, our nerves couldn't take any more so we sneaked out of the ground, walked back to the station and started our long journey home.
We got back to Euston Station when one our group suggested we go outside to find somewhere to eat. We'd hardly left the concourse when a group of about twelve lads surrounded the four of us and asked the question, "Who do you support?" I was always brought up to tell the truth. "Brighton", I told them. "We're Chelsea!", came the reply. "Get their jackets!" one of them shouted. We were all wearing new Levi jackets. As they set upon us, we all split like the Red Arrows, only faster, all in different directions. We all managed to escape complete with jackets. None of us had ever run so fast. Where I found my speed from, I'll never know.
Miraculously, we all met up again at Victoria Station, all in one piece, however, I did need to discard my underpants!
It wasn't until the following morning that I read in the Sunday paper that we'd lost 6-2!!

I ended up going to Selhurst to watch Palace v Scunny with a Scunny mate

I've been to many terrible away games but this was the worst - mainly because of the horrible homophobic abuse thrown at my son and I when we walked back to the car park after the game. He was 10 at the time.

I've detested Scummers ever since.

I was so excited,day off school,a visit to SB and playing Palace too!

It pissed it down in the away end there was no roof, we were locked in after the final whistle and had to endure the PA repeating the commentary of all their goals.

1984. I was there. It was all the more humiliating as the goals rained in. There were a bunch of kids, probably no older than 11, jumping up and down in section to our left throwing 'V' and wanker signs at us. 657 youth squad.

That was only my second away game.

Last time we went down to Pompey, there was a Pompey inbred came lto the end of the big main stand and started homophobicly goading us behind the away goal.
We were strolling it on the park, and all in a good mood, so the chant went up from what seems like the whole end "You're too ugly to be gay"....neandertall went berserk, and was practically foaming at the mouth. Our end broke into spontaneous laughter which made him worse, and then the decent folk of Pompey (both of them) joined in the chorus of laughter. Oh we did laugh.....almost as much as going 1 up at Leeds after a similar load of shite from a standful of Tykes ...when we started up with "One nil, to the bindy boys" after their own volley of abuse.

Its alway seems the matronly gals who enjoy that stuff most.

Funnily enough, a similar first Wembley story for me.

A school trip to an evening England friendly in 1977, THAT incredible Dutch team outclassed us in a 2-0 loss for England. A 92,000 evening sell out.

I dreamt in my sleep on and off for years about that magical night, the passionate singing of 90,000 England fans, huge packed terraces at either end.

From a football point of view nothing will surpass the 5-0 however I left immediately the 5th went in and avoided the lock in.

From a day out point of view, Forest in the league cup quarter final. I was on the third train!!!
